If you regrow hair with minoxidil, it's not possible to hang onto that hair just using finasteride? It's absolutely impossible to maintain the hair you regrew through finasteride? I don't understand, as wouldn't DHT be the cause of the death of the newly developed hairs? If I see any regrowth on minoxidil, I'm gonna be totally dependent on it, and if I stop using it will I lose the hair I regrew even while on finasteride? And is it possible (if finasteride maintenance of minoxidil grown hairs is out of the question), after seeing (best case scenario) heavy regrowth, to drop the dosage down to 1x2% a day sorta thing and maintain? Just wondering, I'm new to all this!

Thanks alot!

this is sort of an apples and oranges deal.

finasteride and minoxidil work by two different methods; finasteride by inhibiting DHT, and minoxidil by a mysterious vasodilation process (widening of blood vessels).

So, while minoxidil and finasteride have a great synergy, you can't really expect one to entirely substitute for the other at some point.

Deaner and others,
This topic has been opened and closed at least a half dozen times since I joined the site. Why not just do a search to find out the answer for yourself?

Here's an example of one thread which contains the answers your seek.
Read it carefully.

FYI, the answer to the question is "no." You can't maintain hair gained on minoxidil with only finasteride. Please use the search feature next time. Thanks.
