so why does anyone even start the finasteride/propecia/proscar/fincar route? Cuz it's cheaper?

because it's FDA approved. :lol: Even though the evidence and science would suggest that Dutas is better, there's just more institutional weight behind finasteride. Also finasteride is easier to get a hold of, cheaper and arguably somewhat less risky.

Adding to what Mulder said, dutasteride tends to block around 50% of alpha reductase type I enzymes and its still unknown if this will have a long term effect. finasteride on the other hand only blocks type II which is what you need to combat hairloss.
