Single strands of hair thinning and then thickening

I've noticed this a couple of times, and just now..

A single strand of hair that's come out....it's thick at the top, then thins for a few cm, then thick again for a few cm at the base.

Is this normal, or is it to do with the treatments? I always thought hair thinned/thickened, by falling out and growing back thinner/thicker, rather than both occuring on a single strand?

Im on finasteride and I have noticed the same thing in some of my hairs as well. my hair is about 3 inches long and it sometimes thins and then thickens 3 or 4 times on a single strand. Not all the hair i shed is that way, every once in a while i will find one like that.

Are you on finasteride?
