everyone responds differently.... my hair thinned bad in the first 2 months and then started to thicken....
there are others who didnt see any results until month 6...
all i can say is keep at it for at least 6 months and if there is no improvements then you need to reconsider your options...
a shed is usually a good thing as new hair are pushing the old ones out

i definitley thinned in the first couple of months. i will have been on finasteride for 3 months straight come next week & im pleased to say ive noticed some thickening over the last week. i do use minoxidil aswell so that is probly playing its part too.

In my first year on proscar i had three big sheds, and all three had me flapping around like a girl, obsessively looking in the mirror.
Like mj9 said, everybody reacts differently, but i've noticed month 2, month5/6 then month 9 seemed like i was losing my hair and had 2/3 week sheds.
Don't worry guys, it's a rocky ride, just try to stay on the log!

its so nice to hear some of your stories and I appreciate those taking the time to share them with us. Taking 2 minutes to post an assuring response could really make a world of difference to another persons anxiety and outlook on the meds. I have been on .5mg of legit propecia for a month now and Im starting to look below baseline, but I'll guess Ill keep at it for 12 months at least and throw in some minoxidil if I head further south. I know that .5mg supposedly has the same effect as 1mg (or 80% according to Rassman), but i've never heard of any success with a consistent .5mg of finasteride only routine, anyone out there?

Funny thing is when i took Propecia (1mg) for the first time i never experienced any substantial shedding and i've been taking it consistently for the past 2 years. Recently I switched over to Fincar (5mg), which i bought from inhouse and cut each pill into 4th's (1.25mg) for daily consumption. It has been close to 2 months and i have been shedding like CRAZY! It's pretty freaking scary. I noticed the front and the top of my head where my bald spot lies has been thinning A LOT. I've noticed frontal success on 0.33 mg of finasteride. It's ridiculous... I had mad diffuse thinning at my right temple and since being on finasteride for a month and a week I have noticed new hairs grow in. I think my vertex is shedding though, which is hopefully a good sign. Hopefully.

You said it yourself - it is ridiculous. Those hairs have probably been there before you started taking finasteride, it's just your consciousness playing tricks

Btw, I am thinking of swithcing from Finpecia to Fincar soon, as most people believe the effects should be the same (of course, costs are like 4 times lower with Fincar). If there are many who have felt Fincar causes problems, or the opposite - yiled better results - please, post here so that you can help us!
