I am 19 years old. Half a year ago I used 1.25mg of Proscar for about 10 days .. after about 5 days i noticed the following side effects. My nipples became sensitive (gyno) and watery semen. I've noticed a lot of people having side effects from using Proscar. Should i try propecia? I'm aware that its the same medicine, but according to research there is 10% chance of side effects(not sure), but definetly less than i see here from people cutting up and using proscar. Should I start with half a pill of Propecia ?

The difference between 1/4 pill proscar and 1 propecia is 25% dose... Unlikely to make a big difference in side-effects. People who come and post here are in general unhappy with their hair loss treatments and want to complain. For a true picture of the effects of a drug go to the proscar studies and propecia studies which are randomized and controlled... Both propecia and proscar have similar low incidence of side-effects. The watery semen is likely to resolve with time (if it doesn't do you really care?), but the tender nipples could in fact be a big clue you needed to quit finasteride... You did the right thing. No harm in trying again, though. If I were you I'd try 1/2 propecia a day for a couple months... If no problems you might try 1 pill a day... Just my thoughts, no promises (with free advice you get what you pay for : )

Thanks for the advice. I've been reading this site way too much. I have a pretty sensitive scalp i guess. Seborrah dermatitis which i keep under control with Nizoral 2/3x a week/T-gel/ Revivogen Shampoo (great sebum cleanser). But it still gets oily, and pretty itchy after Nizoral.

Btw. Should I use minoxidil? Dr. Lee or Xandrox on my hairline? and on top of my head( diffuse thinner)

or is that a bad idea?

I've read about people losing hairlines.

the losing hairlines business is BS, most of the time it happens when one starts to use minoxidil, then sees a shed in month, say 2 or 3 and quits it because it caused them to "lose ground", when in reality, they never gave minoxidil a chance to work. now, the insulin resistance topic is a whole other story which i wont get into (search for it on these boards if you'd like to see the debate). the only thing that sucks about minoxidil is the application every day. but if your hair is worth that much to you, it's definitely worth the effort. btw, im on month 3 of minoxidil and it's doing the job for me!!
