I just started finasteride 3 weeks ago and im also taking Xandrox 15 & 5, Proxiphen, nizoral & Nano shampoo. I was thinking of just switching to dutasteride because i've read a lot of positive results from people who take it and their results were great and better than when they were on finasteride. I just figure since im in the early stages of hairloss ( norwood 1.5 with some minor overall thinning) why waste potential time that dutasteride could have been giving me better results than finasteride. I take real propecia and if i make the switch to generic dutasteride it will cost me the same. Also i've had no side effects on finasteride so far at all so i figure i'll be okay on dutasteride and im not worried about that. using minoxidil for 5 months has helped a lot to grow almost terminal hairs on my hairline and if these thicken up and grow longer i wont even be on the norwood scale anymore. Im also looking for some overall thickening of hairs and i just started using minoxidil on my whole scalp a few weeks ago. Anyways guy's sorry for the long post and any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

On the question of price (which you raised): Expect some increase in the price for generic Dutasteride. The Indian Parliament this week passed legislation restricting the production of generic drugs in that country (which includes, I assume, Dutas and Duprost).

Here's a summary, from the 24 March 2005 New York Times:
http://www.nytimes.com/2005/03/24/inter ... r=homepage

An excerpt: "[A]ll the generic drugs already approved in India can still be sold, though sellers must now pay licensing fees." What these licensing fees will mean for prices on generic Dutasteride, I'm not sure.

For what seems like a successful dutasteride story (so far), see Slartibartfast's diary: http://www.hairlosstalk.com/discussions ... highlight=

For some possible unanticipated problems in the brain chemistry, see posts by Red Rose and Bismark at: http://www.hairlosstalk.com/discussions ... c&start=20

ropcat, thanks for the links. I wont be ordering anything from India. Also how come those side effects involving the brain were not mentioned in phase 1 or 2 of the trials? I just dont know if finasteride will be powerfull enough and if i would get better faster results on dutasteride. I would really like an overall thickening of my hair and those semi-terminal hairs to become full terminal hairs again. I just dont want to waste anymore time and get on the best most effective treatments i can. Anybody else?

Do they make generic Dutasteride anywhere else in the world, though?

I don't know why this brain stuff wasn't studied in the drug's FDA trials, either. I've been trying to figure that out.

The posts I've read in various diaries suggest that people are having nice thickening on the crown with dutasteride (including switchers who'd previously been on finasteride for long periods), but the results are very mixed for the hairline. (Obviously it's all anecdotal, and there's no way to extrapolate from a handful of people's experiences.)

If you have no sides on dutasteride, go for it. However, it seems there are more sides reported than with finasteride with which I'm getting issues. I'm going to cut my finasteride dose down to 1 mg every two days due to already noticeable side effects - loss of morning erections - price reasons and an efficiency that is about the same anyway (even 0.2 mg is reported to have about as much effect as 1 mg).

Thanks for the advice. Im having no sides at all from finasteride and i just got a fat morning wood this morning

I kind of want that to go away though for the next little while though because im trying to focus on work and studying for my career and i have no time right now for relationships, and i also want to stop chokin it alltogether if you know what i mean. Mabye once per month or somethin like that cause i gotta stay mega focused.

Good for you, as long as you have no sides, go for it, but always keep in mind there is a risk and ask yourself whether it is worth it, as with all things in life. I do believe one has the right to all information to make a balanced decision and I do believe some of the info on the level of the sides of pharmaceutical companies can be misleading.

Thanks Norwood2.5 for your advice. I have another 1 month supply of finasteride on the way and i think after im done that im going to switch to Dr.Reddy's generic dutasteride from http://www.menspharmacy.com

Is this website legit aswell as Dr.Reddy's generic dutasteride?
I might aswell switch since im already on finasteride and i would like better, faster, and more long term results. With my new regimen i hope to maintain for atleast 10 years untill a cure comes out or something.
