Should I Begin Treatments? (pictures Included)

My family has been trying to tell me that my hairline is perfectly normal and that I'm not balding but I've definitely noticed a difference. If I actually am experiencing male pattern baldness, I'd like to begin treatment to avoid further hair loss so I need honest opinions. I thought I'd add that I'm not experiencing any shedding whatsoever apart from the normal shedding of a few hairs when brushing.

Also, I'm a 20 year old male.

My Questions:
  • Am I experiencing male pattern baldness?
  • Where am I on the Norwood scale (I think I'm at NW3 but not sure)?
  • Should I begin Finasteride before more receding occurs?
  • I purchased Minoxidil but I'm not sure if my hair loss is bad enough to justify applying it (I'm afraid of the side effects / shedding). Should I apply it anyways or wait?

1. Yes
2. Like a NW2-2.5 I wouldn't say 3 just yet.
3. Yes
4. Give Finasteride a year alone first before adding in minoxidil.

Yes, looks like male pattern baldness, your hair is still really thick though so if you start treatment, you should be able to save what you have and have a slight chance to regrowth.

Finasteride and minoxidil could both work well, but remember that when you first start using these treatments, the first few months are hard and you must ride out any increased shedding etc. to see results long term.

I appreciate all of the responses. I've scheduled an appointment with my dermatologist so I can start Finasteride. I'm already on Nizoral and will wait to see if that and finasteride suffice before using Minoxidil.

Thank you to everyone!

Good choice, I wouldn´t start Minoxidil if you have a lot to lose.
