Shen Min

I did not find any info on this when I did a search. I've ordered a bottle of 60 pills. Supposedly you're to take 2 a day but I will only take 1 a day.

Does anyone have any experience with the product? It contains He Shou We and Saw Palmetto. I've read what this site has to say about Saw Palmetto and its not all that positive. The side effects are pretty unclear. But if I take 1 pill a day I should be pretty ok? I'm a perfectly healthy male so hopefully it works a little.

I am trying everything but propecia at this time...

why? if you are trying to use an oral saw palmetto product like shen, then you are obviously "okay" with using a dht inhibitor, which saw palmetto is. why would you choose the wrong one? propecia is also a dht inhibitor but FOR HAIRLOSS. what you are saying is like saying:
"i really want to lose weight, so i'm trying to stop eating so many turkey sandwiches, vegetables and fruits, i'm trying everything except giving up chocolate and mcdonalds"

huh?

Thanks for your informative post though. I came on this board to get help, not to get dissed.

Anyways...propecia is my last option because I don't want to depend on the pill everyday and give Merck 60 dollars every month for the next 10 years. Given that propecia has side effects etc. (not saying saw palmetto doesn't have any either - so don't get your panties in a bunch). Shen Min is just a hair vitamin so I want to try that out first before moving onto propecia. I am also trying revivogen shampoo as well. We'll see how that goes...

Yep I agree about getting dissed, that chocolate and McDonalds remark was way over board. Please tone things down a bit trent. Try to be a little more sensative to a users mood.

80srevival,

If you're serious about fighting hairloss you should be on at least 1 product that has been proven to work. Propeica is the chioce of many since the occurance of side effects is relativily low and in most cases are tolerable, but I can understand that you don't want to take that route.
There's a good reason why nobody is using shen min and saw palmetto products, they don't do much if anything for the hair.
Revivogen shampoo won't do anything either. From what I've read it's a nice shampoo though.
At the very least buy some 2% Nizoral shampoo and use it 2-3x/week. It's marketed as an anti-dandruff shampoo but there's a study out there that showed it had simular regrowth properties to 2% minoxidil.
While I really don't beleive in "hair vitamins" a good multi vitamin couldn't hurt.
I've been experiencing hairloss for 11 years now and have seen all the "natural" stuff come and go. Honestly, at best they might be good adjunct to a proven regimen or an alternative if the proven stuff doesn't work.
How bout a little history on your hairloss? severity, when it started? This will help people point you in the right direction.
BTW try your search again...I just typed in shen and got a page of hits. 4 or 5 with it in the subject line. The rest are probably discussed within the thread.
Good luck and welcome.

dude you guys totally missed my point. i wasn't trying to be a dick AT ALL i really really apologize if thats the way it came off. i get really annoyed when people get dissed on a site that is supposed to be helpful. i was only trying to point out that he was using an oral DHT inhibitor already to try and fight hairloss. so why would he not use propecia? why would you use the wrong DHT inhibitor? i used the analogy because i didn't know how much about hair loss treatments he knew and i was trying to simplify my point. sorry if i pissed you off man.

i haven't heard much about shen that's good, but i can tell you this. i used a saw palmetto product for three months and just shed shed shed, then after i stopped it my shed reduced significantly. hope THIS helps.

Hi Joe,
thanks for the information. Thats exactly the kind of feedback I was looking for. I will go buy some Nizoral right away. Does it matter what concentration I should get for Nizoral? I am a diffuse thinner and it happened maybe two years ago. I am now 24 yrs young. At first, I was in denial because male pattern baldness is not prevelant at all in my family. My dad is in his late 50s and he has a full head of hair and so do my two older brothers. My mom's side is ok too. To top it off I'm asian. I'm been having a really hard time dealing with it.

You can get 2% without a prescription from http://www.canadapharmacy.com
There's a 1% version that can be found in just about any drugstore or grocery store.
2% is a little harsh on the hair (for me anyways) but i do use it occasionally. Most of the time I use the 1%. Do a light prewash to clean the scalp. This will let the scalp absorb the active ingredient better. Basically wash,rinse,repeat.....But let the second wash stay on the scalp for about 5 minutes. Be sure to condition afterwards.
Just a little side note finasteride (propecia) seems to work best on diffuse thinners. You mentioned cost of Propecia in one of your posts. You can get finasteride in the form of Proscar much cheaper than Propecia. Proscar and Propecia have the exact same medication (finasteride) Proscar comes in a 5mg pill and is actually much cheaper than Propecia. All you have to do is cut each Proscar pill into 4 or 5 pieces to get the recommended dose of around 1mg. 30 Proscar pills which will last 4-5 months costs about $80($16-$20 a month)...Just a little info in case yo eventually decide to go with finasteride.

You can buy the active ingredient in Shen Min from the vitamin shop. I think it is called "He Sho Wu". Its benefits come from a chinese man of old who ate the herb and darkened his greying head.

I used high doses of it for a few months and saw NO RESULTS WHATSOEVER.

'nuff said.
