Hey guys,

I'm now 5 months into finasteride 1,25mg ED.

My shedding basically stopped somewehere between 2 and 3 months into it. I was shedding 120+ hairs only during showering and blow drying my hair. The itch (which made me crazy before treatment) also stopped after like 1 month. Now my shedding started again a week ago. It's still a lot less than before but it's again like around 50-70 hairs when Im showering and blow drying my hair. My itch also very slightly came back but also nothing comparable with pre treatment status.

Should I just ride it out? Or add minoxidil?

You should stick with it but document your progress with pics so if you get regrowth you can see it.

Oh damn I forgot to mention the main difference of my pre treatment shedding and the current one. That was the reason why I started this thread haha seems like brain fog is hitting me hard lol

So before treatments I was shedding mainly miniaturized hairs while now I mainly shed terminal hairs. Is there anything I can conclude out of this? Good bad, no sign?

Do not make the understandable but common mistake many people make in the beginning which is needlessly counting how many hairs you are losing.

Women shed tons of hair yet do not go bald.

I know and I was just counting my hairs in the beginning when I was in panick mode but haven't really counted my hairloss after 1 week on treatments However lately I realized that my hair fall has increased and so I just counted the fall during shower and drying for 4 days to compare with my hair loss before starting finasteride.

I have the feeling that I naturally have lots of hair fall bc I can remember having lots of hairs on my pillow etc at the age of 16 when I wasn't balding at all. I guess I'm just regrowing some amount of them back? Idk

The first year with finasteride is a roller coaster. Ups and downs, shedding, hair thinning, assuming the worst that it will not work etc and you are destined to be bald etc.

This will pass. You are taking a drug that blocks 70% of the main hormone that causes hairloss. Dutasteride blocks 90%. These are not weak drugs, no matter what the forum portrays.

That's true and no matter what comes I'm gonna give this at least a year to make a realistic assessment.

That’s the best way to go about it. Remember after a year you can also add minoxidil and that combined with finasteride will likely help you even further. If you are still not happy you can consider Dutasteride after informing a doctor about it.

The first year with finasteride is a mess, it was for myself included. Objectively the best thing to do is just ignore the first year because it’s guaranteed it’s a roller coaster that will drive you crazy with worry. You should have seen some of the things I posted on this forum in a panic 10 years ago. I ignored more experienced posters telling me to just relax.

I am able to think with a clear head now, I wasn’t in the first year which is why I try and objectively help beginners.

No problem. I do not know your case in detail but the reason you should relax are the following facts.

While there are others reasons for hairloss, the MAIN cause of hairloss is the hormone DHT. That is an established fact.

Finasteride blocks 70% of that hormone. Dutasteride 90%.

How is it logically possible to drop four or five Norwood levels and go from Norwood 2 to Norwood 5 or 6 in a couple of years while the main hormone that causes hairloss is so massively reduced?

All the best in your journey.
