When people say they "shed," how many hairs are we talking here??

I think my hair may be falling out, but I'm just not sure. I'll see a couple of hairs in my hand when i shampoo and I put a filter at the bottom of my shower and there were like 4 or so hairs that came out. I knwo this isnt a lot but is this the beginning???

I was talking to a balding friend and he said not to worry...his hair was falling out in the hundreds!?!??!?! just looking for some guidance...Thanks guys!

That I've read and understand, 50-100 hairs at a time is "normal".

Hey,

Before I went on propecia I had hair all over my pillow and in my hands after shampooing I had approximately 10-15 hairs. Now, lets say after a week I have maybe 1 or 2 hairs on my pillow and I have approximately 2-5 hairs on my hands after shampooing each day.

You can't esitmate shedd sizes, its not possible to keep track of every single hair failling out. You can only estimate the before and after affects based on similiar comparisons, as above.

Take the pill put on the minoxidil and you should notice a difference in the hair loss quanities after 3-4 months, fingers crossed.

Your rate of hair shed has nothing to do with potential male pattern baldness status.

There are people who are non-male pattern baldness, and shed tons of hair each day, and there are people who are male pattern baldness-prone and don't shed much. It is not a reliable indicator of anything because everyone goes through sheds. The difference between male pattern baldness and non-male pattern baldness people is that the non-male pattern baldness folk regrow this shed hair at an equal thickness and volume as the hair they shed.

I rarely see a hair in the bath or shower and even if I vigrously wash my hair over the sink I almost never see a hair left behind, this has not stopped me receded and thin.

Normal shed rate 100-150 hairs a day.
