Shaving the head and should I be worried?

Hi,

I use to use gel occasionally when I was 12 (more like 13) for about two years. I stopped because I noticed that my hair was falling out. Afterwards I used DAX (a coconut oil hair product). I'm 17 and my hair still falls out and I have a slight receding hair line. I do style my hair on most days. I shaved my head hoping to strengthen the roots as I have thin hair. What would you suggest? Also I thought I'd mention that when I use shampoo my hair becomes really dry and light and it is easier for it to fall out.

My parents both have a full set of hair but my mum's hair is thinning. I don't have 5 fruits and veg. a day, but I do have some. But a few years back I had nothing but take away for 4 months straight.

Oh and I'm male, if that helps at all.

Oh and whoever came up with this as an idea for a forum is a genius.

Regards

You need to understand that hairloss is genetic it has nothing to do with health or eating fruit, or whatever shampoo you use :shakehead: . Also shaving it will not make it grow back stronger.
Keep researching about hairloss on here and find out more about the big three:
Finasteride
Minoxidil
Nizorol

minoxidil
nizarol

Forums can be a great help, but sometimes seeing a doctor might be a better option. If possible talk to a professional.

While I agree, he's still gonna need it in two years so its best he starts doing research about the proven treatments.

No one in my immediate family has suffered from hair loss? I mean, I think I have a slight receding hairline, (keyword being think). But from what I've been reading it might be natural. I do have thin hair, but that's just something in my family.

And yes, I think it's time I saw my GP.

Thanks again. :bravo:

EDIT: So shaving the head has no effect what-so-ever? But now that my scalp is exposed would anyone recommend me putting anything on it, like oil or something?

oh by the way i never knew you were 17 so finasteride may not be a good idea just yet....

try minoxidil on your head (however it not for under 18s but dependds how quickly you have grown)

defo buy some nizoral

Many our age have a slightly receded hairline. Usually it doesn't develop.

It's a myth. The action of shaving gives the hair a sharp edge and it's that sharpness that makes people think the hair is thicker. In reality shaving has no effect on thickening the hair.

its probably best to keep an eye on it for a while, then start some treatments, then wish youd started them earlier :)

if you think its going then it probably is but theres other stuff to try other than propecia. if youve got thin hair its gonna fall out.
