Shaving... Not always a good thing.

Its summer, I have electric clippers, and im obsessing about hair... So why not shave? ...

Well, I did, no guard... It doesnt look as bad as I thought it might, but I kind of miss the hair I had. Why did I do it? To see the worst hair loss can do and hopefully put things in perspective. What did I learn? I can deal with it, but would rather not. I am more self-conscious, look older than I did (i think) with my hair which would occasionally flash scalp at the vertex or thru the front, and I am mainly waiting on it to grow back : ) It will be 3-4 months, I imagine, and in the meantime I'll keep up the treatments. When it grows in again it might be thicker (if the treatments are helping, it will be 5-6 months on dutasteride this fall) or might not. What Im sure of is that Ill appreciate what I have more, and be a little more confident that it won't be the end of the world if I do have to shave.

Am I glad I did it? No. Will it be a good thing in the long run? Probably not, since I could have waited 5 years to do this. But, I guess I'll have a few months to practice on my outlook.

Just thought I'd post this in case anybody else was going to impulsively take the plunge.

PS- I feel like Bruce Willis. That's not a bad thing, but Im younger, and not a movie star... and was never married to Demi Moore.

i have been shaving my head twice a week (no guard) and am much happier than before...however, like you...i also miss having hair. But i've come to realize that everything that was necessary to wear my hair long and all the things that bugged me about it and all the things that i was limited to were not worth it. i'm happier with a shaved head...and i don't look older :hairy:

Thanks, Jimmy. I know its a good thing. Just a shock to my vain system.

Well, I haven't been out and about much yet... so im mainly just obsessing by myself over it. I believe that shaving will be a good thing (maybe not this short but short enough to show some skin, leaving the top longer than the sides for a few more years).

It is much better to embrace thinning hair than deny and try to hide it, and much healthier. It is only hair... (Note to self... repeat "its only hair"every 2 seconds for 3 months until my 1/4 inch shadow is back). I dont have to work until monday, so should have time to grow a better "shadow" and a "soul patch." I may also have time to get chains, an ear clip, and a tattoo to go with the biker look I've discovered : ). As a professional who works with the elderly I dont want to go too scary, but this could be fun...

Ok, Im going out to jog and buy a video game (doom3 xbox)... And, if anyone looks at me Im going to punch them in the face.

sport the look man...don't feel wierd about it...if you feel wierd about it then you might look more wierd. lots of guys pull it off and people don't second look it..especially if you have a head of hair and not a thinned out top and darker sides.
