Shampooing

Maybe one of the reasons I get so much minoxidil flake build up (not because I use too much) is because I'm not shampooing right.

When I shampoo, I hardly put any pressure on the scalp. I apply a liberal amount into my hand in the shower, and rub it into my head. I don't really lather it, though, on top as much. I mean, I do, but just not as much.

But tonight, I was just having an irritation fit. I took some T/Sal (T-something)- which has Salicylic Acid in it. I applied it all over, lathered it up forcefully and left it on for about 5 or so minutes. I washed it out.

Damn. My head feels so much better.

From now on I'm going to wash my head more rigorously, and with a better rotation of T/Gel, Nizoral 1%+2% (Combination) + and Nioxin.

I do have a few questions:

Do you guys shampoo rigorously, or are you more gentle with your hair?

What shampoos do you use?

How often?

Any Rogaine users out there want to share their methods of removing these flakes for good?

Thanks in advance,
Andy

Day 1: nizoral

Day 2: T-gel

Day 3: Polytar - I don't know if that's available over the pond, although I'm sure there is an equivlant. According to the blurb, it's for "Flaking scalps, eczema, psoriasis and problem dandruff". I get it from the drug store. It's good.

I also use just a ordinary deep conditoner most days. I quite often shampoo my hair again when I get home from work. This means the morning application of minoxidil has been on for a good 8 hours, but it allows my head 4 hours or so minoxidil-free before the night time application.

I'm a believer in keeping my hair routine as short and simple as possible, in order to make sure I stick to it. This may sound like a lot, but really I probably spend 5 mins a day applying minoxidil, and perhaps 10 minutes shampooing and conditioning. This works for me.

I know generally it's not good to over-shampoo your hair, but even though I've always had dry hair, these days my hair feels fairly soft and in good condition.

I'm still suffering from dandruff because of the minoxidil, but it's not too bad and I don't get those ridiculous sized flakes I used to get.

Also, have you tried using minoxidil without propylene glycol?

Quote from Dr Lee:

Does replacing propylene glycol with glycerin reduce the effectiveness of Xandrox
solutions? Not at all. Glycerin has been substituted in this formula because approximately
10% of patients are allergic to propylene glycol in Rogaine and other over the counter
formulations of 5% minoxidil solutions. Propylene glycol is used a humectant and
to increase the shelf life of minoxidil solutions. Glycerin, which is used in high
quality soaps, is an excellent substitute for what propylene glycol. It's the alcohol
in the liquid base that allows for the absorption and penetration of minoxidil into
the skin.

I use AC revitalizing shampoo + cond for about one month, but I can't still say is it helping or not... but I used vichy decors shampoo and all I can say- excellant, it really minimalize hairloss... But I switched to AC b/c ingredients are cooper peptides and saw palmeto, so there is some proven background that it can halp...

nizoral 2% and prewash Garnier fructis
