selsun - any use?

I was buying nizoral 1%. I saw that selsun shampoo (Selenium sulfide) helps reduce flaking and itching due to dandruff and seborithic dermititis and helps avoid the re-occurence of the same.

I was wondering that if MSM is good for suphur, is there any use in selsun since it has sulphur in it? Any potential negatives in using selsun? My guess is that it may not be as powerful as nizoral, but might be worth using it on alternate days.

I use selsun blue 1% and it works pretty good; for me it works better than head & shoulders or any other p. zinc formula. I think with selsun, as with a lot of dandruff medications, it's best not to overuse it because it'll probably lose effectivness. I use selsun about once a week or so and so far it's been working pretty good. Medications work differently for various people, though. Give it a shot , i've read great reviews about it on the skincell.org forum from people suffering from seb. derm. Good luck.

Selsun will reduce itching and flaking on an irritated scalp, as will a salicylic acid shampoo (like T/Sal) or a coal tar shampoo (like T/Gel), but Nizoral as well as having anti inflammatory properties is also a mild anti-androgen and will help reduce the synthesis of DHT in the scalp from sterols.
