Scratching/itching head while I sleep - does this sound norm

It's really weird. I have a skin condition called Dermatographia where my skin goes to hives when I scratch it making it more itchy and irritated. I went to the Derm and he was uselss.

I find that I am subconciously scratching (aggressively) my head at night. How do I know this? Well sometimes I wake up at 2am in the morning and I am scratching my head profusely (which wakes me up). And to add to my depression I find 30 hairs on my pillow. Sometimes I wake up in the morning to find Toppik under my fingernails. I apply toppik to my crown area for now until I decide whether I want to take the propecia dive. So it's obvious I'm subconciously scratching my head during the night increasing my hairloss.

I was just wondering what I can do? like maybe wear a mitt or glove to sleep until my body has adjusted and the psychological urge to scratch my head ceases? With Dermatographia once you scratch you keep going because the resulting hives irritates the skin further so once your scratch you can't stop. When I wake up, I literally have to scratch my armpit to stop the scartching on my head.

I've gone to see a doctor but he says everything is normal and I'll have to just live with Dermatographia etc. f***! Useless doctors. Just out to make the fast dollar.

This may sound useless, but as you already said, concentrate on different things then your head and try not to think about it. Have faith.

Do you use Rogaine? That can make your head itchy and will obviously make any underlying condition worse. All I can suggest is to try using a specialist shampoo like Nizoral which is supposed to stop your head itching.

The mits idea probably won't work. I had eczema as a kid and my parents used to tie mits on me at night! I used to be able to scratch through them though and you would probably do the same. It could even make more hairs fall out.
