My deremetogist says that clinically (what she sees in her patients) that rogaine can keep you above baseline for 10 years. A lot of people think that it loses effectiveness over time but my doctor said that's not true. She said DHT is not the only reason we go bald because if it were, propecia would work for everyone and be a cure for hair loss. She said minoxidil can reverse the miniaturization process so it absolutely interferes with the balding process.

Thoughts?

Minoxidil (Rogaine) does not only help with hair growth, it also promotes maintenance. The treatment does not lose effectiveness, rather if DHT is not inhibited and/or the androgen receptors are not antagonized, the hair follicles will continue to miniaturize. Androgenic Alopecia is a multi-faceted genetic health issue; however, DHT itself plays a huge role and is basically the main role at what causes the balding process of predisposed hair follicles. I'm not 100% sure about Minoxidil reversing the miniaturization process. Though the treatment certainly does help keep hair follicles alive, helps hair grow thicker, keeps them from falling out so easily, etcetera. I cannot give you a full explanation on exactly how Minoxidil helps treat baldness since the exact mechanism(s) of how the drug works is not fully understood to this day.

I use 5% Minoxidil twice daily and have had good results from it, and I'd recommend it to anyone who has potential for nice cosmetic hair regrowth. :)
