So I have been a member for a while and searching on and off for advice on treating my hairline this year.

I started off completely fine, no issues with hairline at all then come February my hairline literally started to disintegrate...i was absolutely devastated. (I should mention I was taking Min 5% twice a day for 6 months up until that point as I really wanted to fill the hairline out a bit more).

After watching my hairline get steadily worse, I bit the bullet and started on finasteride 22 June...starting with .25 and working up until now where I am taking 1mg a day.

I have now been on Min 5% twice a day for 12 Months and finasteride for roughly 3.....and whilst I am seeing lots of little fine hairs everywhere (under very strong light) ARE these NEW Hairs?! or miniaturized hairs?! I write in despair as my hairline today is looking the WORST it ever has :( How long does it take for finasteride to start really working!?

All ive read on this website is it takes a year to see if it is working and two years for maximum effect however im just like you but I started propecia in feb and my hairline has been vanishing ever since. The back and mid scalp are still fine not that they were a problem to begin with but my hairline has completely tanked in such a short space of time even with Toppik applied its still looks terrible! Sadly frontal loss is hard to treat which sucks as my hair is still so thick at the crown but my front is wispy thin now and im only 24!!!! Id say just keep taking for a year anyway because if you quit now your just going to lose your hair in the long run and DHT blockers are essential if u wanna keep yourhair . Im gonna do a year and if im not satisfied ill try dutasteride...

I've been on finasteride since mid July and started shedding a few weeks after I started. So 2 months so far and it's been loose, loose, loose ever since. I have read a lot of success stories on these forums where guys are loosing ground until the 6 month mark and then turn around and end up better than they started. So, I will put in the year and see what happens. That would be my advise to you from what I have read. Good Luck to you.

Thanks man.....Lets be honest it gets really annoying when you keep taking and taking and taking this stuff yet all you get is your hairline continually thin and looking worse in the mirror!

Its weird because some guys seem to get amazing results literally 3/4 months in! (Im NOT one of those guys).

I am the same in that my hairline is deteriorating yet the rest stays the same....I am taking 1mg of propecia too!

finasteride + Rogaine stopped my hair loss, I remember the first day I applied Rogaine, my whole glove was covered up with 10-25 hairs, keep in mind I'm NW4 stage.

Within 1 month the hairloss stopped, Applying Rogaine wearing white glove made me able to have a clear view on what kind of hair I would "lose" while applying it, mostly 1 thick hair and 5-10 little black hairs (regrown and shedding?)

I have been on treatment for 3 months, once I hit 6 months mark I will post all daily pictures I took.

I am keeping my fingers crossed that I am one of the 'Freaks' for whom this starts to regrow because I will look borderline retarded with no hair :(!

There are some hair loss specialists that can test your DNA to get an idea on how effective finasteride will be for you. For many men it just doesn't work. For some it slows losses down similar to rogaine. For others it halts hair loss (like it did for me). And for the freaks it regrows hair. (Not sure how true of regrowth it is, I think it just makes existing hair healthier).

Why prolong the agony. Why live life in vanity. Many women like bald men and have a taste for them. You have an edge over other guys for these women. Maybe there dads were bald. Many bald men will favor your company because they went bald too. You instantly relate with these guys. Stop trying to look like a sissy 12 year old boy and be the bald monster within. Take charge!

I remember reading a scientific report stating that, of a study of men (88% caucasian and mostly between the ages of 20-30), Finasteride regrew hair on around 40% of them.
Keep in mind, though, the average hair/inch^2 on a normal adult is around 2,400 and the regrowth noted on this was around 400 hairs per square inch
pretty sure I read in the same study that finasteride is effective for around 90% of the participants in the study, and I know Rogaine is effective for around 86% of patients. Those are pretty good in terms of clinical trials, but the amount of time it take probably varies depending on the person. Rogaine says in its little pamphlet the reassuring phrase "don't expect results until the 6 month mark"

I've been using Finasteride for 2 years, 8 months, and minoxidil foam since last June. Neither have regrown any hair on my head, so I look just as balding as when I started. These medications just don't give regrowth for everyone, unfortunately. :(

It is to soon for real results. Of course you always hope you will be that lucky one who had regrowth after two months. We started treatment at pretty much the same moment.

Nov-2013 started minoxidil
22-06-2014 started with fina and regenepure

Fina even at the same day.

I am noticing some small hairs as well and the shedding seems to be over since 1-2 weeks, small reduce in hair loss. Can't be sure if the small hairs are new ones. At the moment i'm definitely worse of than baseline as well. My hairline is way worse. Lets hope we both start seeing some nice results in the next half year. Remember that 3 months is pretty much the absolute best case scenario, (normally speaking) to get some results! Nothing to worry about yet. Although i agree the shedding is very annoying. Hang in there
