Rest of finasteride after only six months of treatment?

Hi, I'm Martin from Argentina. I'm almost 24 years old and started losing hair at 17; beyond that time, I still have lots of hair. My doctor diagnosed me Androgenetic Alopecia so he prescribed me finasteride 1mg (once a day) and minoxidil 5% (one application per day). I started with the treatment six months ago and it worked very well (less falling, some regrowth at the hairline and general thickening), but a week ago I visited my doctor and after he looked my hair he said that I was pretty good and told me to drop finasteride and keep using only minoxidil, and see if I can continue only with the last one. I'm really concerned about that. It's supposed that finas starts working generally after six months, that is, at this time of my treatment; sounds like a bad decission to give up finas when it's starting to work! I didn't have any side effect neither to justify the decission. What do you think? should I left finas or not?

I'm speculating your doctor wants to see if you can maintain the results with just minoxidil alone. Why later your hormones for years if you don't have to? If you look at old graphs you will see some people were put on finasteride for a year taken off for a year and put back on it again. When they were off pf
it they lost hair. When they were out back on it they regrew hair again and were above the baseline by far. If it means you lose some hair temporarily to see if minoxidil can work
on it's own without needlessly altering your hormones I think it's worth a shot. Despite what people say on this forum and their constant shill for finasteride minoxidil does work long term for many people. You only hear of the 20
percent of guys it doesn't work for. 40 percent see regrowth. 80
percent have slowed down hair loss with it. All you will get from any treatment is a slow down in losses. Hopefully you will stay above where you started.
