why is there an inverse relationship between scalp and body hair?

almost a year on finasteride, and the hair on my arm is like a little girl's. you would think that would be a good sign that finasteride is working on my scalp, but i feel thinner on top too.

i understand that the thickness/density of body hair isn't necessarily related to scalp hair--girls have less body hair than guys, and they obviously have thick scalp hair. however, isn't that just because guys have more testosterone, which is the cause of body hair. but why would finasteride reduce body hair when it only affects the amount of dht in your body, and not the amount of testosterone. in fact, you probably have more testosterone while on finasteride because less is converted to dht, so you should have more body hair. i don't get it, is dht the cause of body hair? doesn't seem right. i'm confused. seems counterintuitive

I think there are some people who are very sensitive to hormones levels in their body. These people tend to have a lot of body hair on their back and chest, and lose the hair on their head very quickly, sometimes by their early 20's.

These people also seem to be more prone to obesity, especially in the trunk, gut and upper thighs.

They many not have particuarly high hormones, just the cells in their bodies are more sensitive to normal levels.

2 guys at work fit this mold exactly.

I would guess that finasteride and other hormone modifying drugs would have the most effect on these people libido, and the highest chance to develop gyno from said drugs.

It's just "pseudo trend"...I have quite a bit of body hair all over, its not particularly thick but it's probably more than 90% of guys....yet my facial hair isnt that great, its only thick under my chin, while I am diffuse thinning on my scalp....overall the density of my hair follicles on my whole body sucks.

i think i was misinterpreted. i meant that taking finasteride has reduced my body hair. and what i don't understand is how something that reduces body hair can supposedly increase scalp hair.

Just like hormones trigger your scalp hair to fall out, they trigger your body hair to grow. Thats why body->scalp hair transplants are successfull.

Did Propecia stop your hairloss?

Did Propecia improved your head hair?

Many people seem to have this problem. I have read some testimonials where people said that they had a body hair reduction as well as scalp hair increase while on Proscar or Propecia.

I hope to be one of those too if I start Proscar.
