Recently visited a derm who told me I was a norwood 1 and to start using regaine/rogaine at night before bed. Ive receded a bit in the temples, what can I expect from it? Anyone have good results?

I've had some decent results around the temples so far. From what I understand, that kind of result is highly individualistic and may not work for different people. When I started I kept my expectations low and was pleasantly surprised.

Unfortunately I had the oft-discussed shedding, but I kept it up. Frankly, you've gotta be ready to stick to it for some time to get results, and you will at some point lose hair while on it.

My one caveat is that I also started two other treatments simultaneously, so I can't be certain which one(s) are really the major factor: Nizoral shampoo every few days, and saw palmetto extract every day. The former has some studies backing it up, but isn't generally approved to be marketed for hair loss. The latter has some anecdotal support and some logical hypothetical means of action, but no solid data that I'm aware of. Saw palmetto does tend to be prescribed for prostate problems, so I figured it couldn't hurt.

Good luck navigating all the information out there!

i can say this, i used minoxidil when i was slightly past nw1 plus thinning on top. once i started using min it seemed as if my hair thickened right away, like with toppik or something. it was weird. im not saying its a common effect though. after a few months on it, my hair started to thin like crazy, and i ditched min. stupid move i think, because that probably was a shed, and sheddings are good. i think it depends a little bit on your age, i was young and still am, kind of. you probably need to stick with min for maybe 4-6 months. either you will see your hair improve right away, like i did, or you will experience thinning, that is even faster than when left untreated. then youre on the right track i think. so my expectations in your position would be: it should make a big difference, since youre only at nw1, so youre early in. but thats just my opinion as a former and in a few days again user.
