Reducing minoxidil dosage

I have two questions that more experienced people may be able to answer.

Question 1
I have heard that finasteride will not maintain any hair grown using minoxidil. Apparenty once minoxidil is stopped hairs grown using minoxidil will be lost in 3-6 months. Is that timeframe mainly for people who are not on finasteride aswell?
What I don't understand is this - finasteride and minoxidil will help to reverse the miniturization of hair follicles. Once the damage of DHT\T has been reversed, why should finasteride not be able to then maintain this improved state?
I would have thought that once minoxidil was stopped, the hairs would overtime be effected by male pattern baldness but finasteride would still aid in reducig the effect on the new hairs aswell.

Question 2
I am using minoxidil 5% twice a day. I am hoping to regrow approx 2years of lost hairs. Do you think that in approx 12 months I could at least reduce my dosage to 5% once daily to maintain?

I have heard that after 12-18 months (max benefit\regrowth has been achieved) some people reduce their minoxidil dose which allows them just to maintain.

I have done this and I have seen no problems at all. Sometimes I apply twice a day, not often but the vast majority is 1 app per day. It saves time and money.

I like doing this because maybe should my results ever fail, I can go back to twice a day to help get me back on track or even a stronger dosage. Who knows.

I agree. There are times where I will apply twice a day, whenever there's an extra moment or two. Mostly I have stuck with once a day application, and have experienced great results. And it's nice having that safety net of two applications, when things possibly do start to fail. I always have believed that very few things in life are a given.

Apparently because the damage of DHT/T hasn't really been "reversed" by finasteride, at least in the case of some of those hair follicles. The old cliché has been that minoxidil is sort of a "life-support" for follicles, and removing that life-support (even while using finasteride) isn't enough to maintain some of them.

Yeah, I'm sure that it HELPS, but it's apparently not fully able to take over that "life-support", at least in some cases.

Well, I tend to feel that because (1) minoxidil doesn't really "maintain" in any fundamental sense, and (2) minoxidil is dose-dependent, I would put my money on that not working too well. However, because everyone is different, you might give it a try and see how it works for you.

Good analogy

Bryan I like your comment 'minoxidil is sort of a "life-support" for follicles', it is a great analogy.
