Hi All,

I went to the derm regarding hair thinning and scalp itch. He identified (and I have since confirmed) small red bumps on my scalp which he attributed to dermatitis. He prescriped nizoral.

The bumps have not really gone away, and I also get fairly sharp pain on the sides of my head (in fairly specific regions). Anyone else experience this? It is not the overall 'itching' that others get with diffuse loss, more like actual pain. It usually coincides with the bumps themselves.

sounds like folliculitis....i have had the same and nizoral doesn't touch it....oral antibiotics, specifically doxycyline has cured it and hair has grown wonderfully since

It does doesn't it! That's the conclusion I came to independently. Strangely, I just finished with accutane -- which is a treatment for folliculitis! No way in hell I'm going back there though...

I do get a few red bumps on my scalp every now and then. Normally they just sitt there only for a week and disappear. I also get sharp burning sensation a couple of times a day and I have noticed that this occurs early in the morning and late in the afternoon (most of the time). I suspect this has something to do with oil production and seborrheic dermatitis which I have on my face. I have just started applying extra virgin coconut oil on my scalp a couple of days a week. I rinse my hair with warm water and apply the oil all over my scalp and leave it on for 30 minutes then rinse it out with a shampoo. It is too eary to tell if this has helped at all but when I apply the oil to my scalp, tons of hair come out . I hope these hairs falling are weak ones that are supposed to fall out anyway.
