Receding hairline

Hi everyone,

I'm 27 and have a receding hairline. The top of my head is fine ... it's just my temples that have been receding for a few years now.

I went on propecia about 2 years ago and don't seem to be responding to it (only guessing as I don't know what would have happened without it). My hairline is still slowly receding at the temples, getting worse and worse.

What's my best chance of getting some regrowth? Rogaine? or does Rogaine not work at the temples?

Nizoral?

Would appreciate any advise from people who have had sucess with regrowth of hair at the temples.

I will try post some pictures in the next couple of days.

Cheers!

propecia was probably slowing it down. ur best bet is to get back on it & use rogaine.

rogaine & propecia however are not as effective at frontal hairloss as on the crown.

Minoxidil is probably your best bet. This is the main ingredient used in rogaine. I have used this and can say it works but only to a limited degree. I had to quit because i coudnt cope with the side affects. Regrowth is very difficult on the temples, this is because there are other factors influencing your hairloss here, mainly age, stress and life style. I would advise a healthy diet, some vitamins, some exercise and certainly no smoking in your life. If possible a stress free job. Some people claim to get regrowth through massaging their scalp but this is debateable. There's little else you can do really other than look into getting a hair transplant if all else fails.

Side effects included light headedness, head aches and the occasional chest pain every now and then. I tollerated this at first but then more problems came. I started getting really bad dandruff which people commented on, which was embarrassing. It didnt stop there too, my hair looked really greasy and my scalp started to itch. I then decided that was enough and quit. I guess my scalp is just too sensitive for minoxidil.

I recently found a minoxidil (added with alzelaic acid) which is less greasy however, which doesnt give me dandruff and works like a charm. I tried it and it worked, but for some reason i got different side effects than to the normal minoxidil. It made my scalp unbearably itchy and made me shed like crazy. I didnt have a shedding problem using normal minoxidil. I got fast regrowth in the temples after 5 weeks of using this minoxidil, but the rest of my hair felt thinner particully at the back of my head. I panicked and quit using it, and the itching took weeks too stop, which made me paranoid about me still shedding.

follicle did you nizoral shampoo at all?

also watch out how much minoxidil you are using- too much is usually the cause of half the sideffects.

yes i did. It helped a little, but my dandruff was that bad it coudn't completelly get rid of it. You see i had a dandruff problem prior to using minoxidil. Minoxidil made it ten time as bad, people thought i had scorisis or something. My current regimen seem to be getting rid of this problem however. I take a regular dose of alpha lipoic acid and green tea to clean my liver and rid my body of the free radicals, which are causing me scalp inflamation (dandruff).

probably nothing. Realistically not to be a pessemist there is nothing right now worth using other then propecia or trying rogain. I personally doubt rogain will halt your hairloss especially if the temples are most sensitive to dht. If its really slow just use propecia and wait a few years for some kind of more powerful and safer topical that might be able to prevent hairloss. You could try spironolactone or flutamide or something but I personally think its all just an expensive waste of money really. None of them will stop hairloss completely or forever.

Theres a guy who goes by the name of Tom haggerty, who claims to have got some regrowth in the temples through doing scalp exercises. He shows you photographic evidence to prove he has retained his hair over the years. I question whether he was really truly balding however as he just looks like he has a mature hairline. He does however explain in detail how this exercise has maintained and regrown his hair, and tells you how to do it. I remain sceptical on its effectiveness though.

Interestingly enough however he is 74 and still hasnt turned grey yet, so maybe their is some bennefit to his scalp exercise. You can find him on this link
