Quitting Propecia after ~1 year

i started propecia in August of 04..
that's right around the corner... 1 year on propecia

and i've been losing hair ever since (at a slower rate, albeit, but still pretty fast)

i have a bald spot now, and my temples have receded by an inch or so.. plus i'm a diffuse thinner, so the anterior midscalp is almost gone also

did i mention i'm 20

yepp, finisteride gave me trouble too.... testical pain (@1.25mg..which went away after a couple of months, then came back so i switched to 0.625mg at month 7-ish).. it also gave me a little bit of gyno... first on the left peck.. then right, after 3 months..... of course i no longer get very aroused sexually and erections don't last long...that i noticed from month 1

i've gotten a lot hairer for some reason too... it all happen all of a sudden (over some time, but i hadn't grown any new chest hairs since grade 12.. that was 4 years ago when i was 16l)...

so chest hair growin like crazy, and singular sprouts of hair on my shoulders .. and a lot more forearm hair too... it's like i'm a wolf lol


anyway, i'm thinking this drug must be really screwing up *my* body (works for some people sure, but it's really screwed with me)... so i think i'm quitting

i didn't get the chance to try the minoxidil+finis combo.. cuz i know i can't handle the routine (i'm a lazy piece of sh*t)

but i have been on nizoral 2% *everyday* for the last 3 months, and before that every couple days or so

what do u advise?
what do u expect will happen if i quit? lose more hair, at even faster rate?
has anyone quit finisteride after a year or so?

or should i stay with it (the 0.625mg of finish and nizoral) and add minoxidil 5%? and hang in there, rotting away... lol

I would suggest you say f*** it and shave it all off. You are 20 and that is no age to have no sex drive in favor of holding on to a few hairs. I am 29 and if treatments don't work for me I plan to shave it off and move somewhere sunny enough to maintain a tan. Well I plan the move anyway. Some girls like shaved heads. I have afreind in Phoenix that went bald in High School and has no problem getting women.

f*** finasteride and try minoxidil. it will stop the loss from the first 10 days. I started it when I was 21 like you almost.
try it before its too late

im pretty pale and underweight if i did that id look straight outta the cancer ward (not tryign to offend anyone here) - but thats how it is. i need this hair im only 19 and its been a battle the past 4 years

nizoral every day?? nizoral is some powerful sh*t man....your supposed to use it twice a week TOPS. The body stuff sounds scary. you may want to try it without so much nizoral if your up for it. Honeslty though..if your 20 and already losing that much hair..its probably VERY aggresive male pattern baldness. Accept it..I know its SO hard. Remember..being bald doesnt suck..balding does. Once you have no more ot lose, you'll become more comfortable with your appearance. Best of luck buddy.

no, no you don't have to except it just use topical azelaic acid with b6 and zinc mixed in it. you may want to thin it out with dmso or a little ethanol (everclear). then hop on the xandrox15. I went a step further and added b complex and zinc to 5% minoxidil and the vellus hair loves it! its a bit smelly and bright yellow so wait till bed to use it and wash it out a.s.a.p in the morning. If you live with family just wear a cap until washed out. sounds silly and desperate perhaps but the sh*t really works! the b-150 complex from walmart is what I use.

Didn't Dr. Lee say something about zinc negatively affecting the effectiveness of minoxidil? I'm sure he did. :wink:

Hey Moe,

Maybe with all your increased chest hair your body has been swamped with androgens leading your hair to be more sensitive to them. Alot of posters that have no or little success with propecia turn to Avodart and have good success...either way i reckon the propecia will help slow your loss.
