Quit finasteride if you have scalp pain?

I need a serious answer already. I've been on finasteride for 1 year and 5 months and am now thinning all over.. I only took this to stop hairline recession and when I hit the one year mark, i had a MASSIVE SHED and scalp pain, burning, stinging, etc.. Now my hairline is incredibly thin and ruined and when wet, the top of my scalp is seriously thin... Does this happen to non responders? I did have a high libido when this shed happened if that matters. I literally couldn't think because my scalp was in such a bad shape. Even if I'd wear a hat, I could feel the inflammation and it would drive me insane. My brother has a receding hairline and j asked if this ever happened to him and he said HELL NO.

PLEASE GUIDE ME! should I quit this?!?!

No reason to think finasteride would do this to you. Maybe you got a bad batch and now you aint blocking DHT anymore?

My hairloss is bad I use no treatments and I have had extreme inflammation for about 2 year in the scalp it drive me mental. Sometime it feels like I have acid poured on my scalp as it burns and tingles away all day.

In the 1 year did you ever notice a finasteride shed? Before your massive shed, scalp pain, burning symptoms did finasteride stop/slow your hairline recession?

My advice is to go see a dermatologist. In the meantime lower your dosage or take it EOD or MWF.

I seriously doubt the finasteride would be the cause of your scalp pain. I used to get the scalp burn/itch before I started finasteride. It was usually pain in the front hairline along the temples where I was receding. It was just in small areas about the size of a dime whenever it would burn. Since I've been on finasteride I don't get the pain anymore at all. As bruno said, it may be your finasteride is bad.

Hey guys, thanks for the replys. I thought of the bad batch theory because I was using dr. Reddys generic for like three months and then this happened. I've since been on proscar, but still have this irratated scalp. I guess I'll stay on this until two years and reasses.

Have generics ever caused this type of reaction? I want to get a transplant, but I'm scared that finasteride will continue to wreck my hair..

Oh, and I never had a shed while on finasteride until the one I recently had at 1 year mark.

Nizoral and antibiotics such as minocycline.

Nizoral 2% had no effect on helping the scalp pain. I'll look into the minoxycline. It's an oral antiboiotic?

I'm having the SAME PROBLEM !!!
Been on finasteride for the exact same amount of time, and i've tried everything.
Emu oil, spironolactone, RegenepureDR, Nizoral, Topical anti-funguls

Not sure what to do anymore, maybe PDG2 antagonist ?

Digidako, I have no idea what to do at this point. Ive been steadily losing about 20 hairs in the shower for the past 5 months now and it's thinning my hair. My LARGE rapid shed last 2 of those months and that was losing around 150+ in the shower.. I was going to get a transplant, but I just don't know if I'm a candidate because I'm shedding still..

Honestly I'm not sure what to do at this point yet either, I started taking finasteride for the same reason you did and it doesn't seem to be doing much with regards to that tingling in my temple. I'm going to see a dermatologist in a few weeks so hopefully I can stay sane until then
