Hi people.
Right, I'm an 18 year old 1/2 Chinese, 1/2 white male.
My Dad (white) is 54, and probably a Norwood 3 at worst, has always had pretty good hair. My grandad is thin on top but is 84. I think my 40+ uncle has a good head of hair also.
On my mothers side, all her 4 or 5 cousins except one have good heads of hair at ages 40-50. Her dad (My grandad) has a full head of hair and is 74 I think. His sons (my uncles), one has a bit of a receeding hairline and possibly thinning on top (may just be the way his hair grows though) but is 40, the older one has a pretty good head of hair.
I first noticed at 17 that my hairline had gone from a 10 girl old girls (curved downwards at the temples) to a square.
Now at my right temple it peaks up about a centimeter, and the hair above it feels thinner but is not noticeably thinner. It used to look strange, with just a narrow peak, but now the hair around it seems to be thinning so it looks more of a normal curve.
My left temple is just about a mm above the square shape, again, the hair around it feels thinner than the rest of my head, but not as bad as the right one.
I've noticed that practically all my friends have this shape, but I'm not sure if they have the thinning around it as they gel their hair and like mine, may not be noticeable without feeling.
My hair has always been quite thin, even pictures of me as a child the hair at the temples seemed a bit thinner. I'm also a vegetarian, and may not get enough protein (absolutely no meat and little soya) if this is of any relevence.
I'm not sure if I'm losing more hair than I used to, mainly because now I really look out for hairs that have fallen out whereas before I didn't care, and I'm touching my hair far more now which may cause more to fall out. I would say no more than 10 per day though.
Currently, none of this is noticeable to anyone, even when my hair is short. I'm just worried about what I'll look like in 5 years time.
I don't have too much of a problem with going bald in my late thirties. But I'm off to university later this year for 3 years. And I just have a horrible vision of waking up one day with no hair, and having to piss taken out of me by all the young hairy lads and women for the rest of my time there.
Now a few questions
1) It's worse on the right of my head, which is the side I always sleep on, could this have any affect?
2) Is this just a maturing hairline of a serious problem?
3) What should I do?
4) Could my vegetarianism be having an effect?
5) How long will it be until my hairline has receeded, if it does happen?
Thanks for your help in advance guys, it's really getting me down. I can hardly eat and sleep because of worry. Hopefully it's just paranoia...
