I scheduled an appointment to see a dermatologist next Wednesday. I posted before indicating that for the past few weeks I have seen a lot of hair of pillow and shower. What to expect from the dermatologist? Would they just give me finasteride if I asked. It seems I am barely have signs of the M shape, I don't know if the doctor would give the medicine to me right away.

In addition, those finasteride stops hair from falling out on hair line? Some pages says that it stops hair loss, but not enough studies showing stopping hair line loss of hair.

With little or no visible hair loss its just going to be the opinion of your dermatologist if they think starting finasteride is good idea. That being said I think most will simply give you their opinion, and will let you make the call. If you demand finasteride I think most would give you the prescription, but they might advise against it. A derm I saw many years ago I was in that same situation, and I decided to wait so im glad I did.
Yes finasteride works everywhere even the front/temples just maybe not as well as there. I would wait until you have obvious signs of male pattern baldness like some kind of bald spot forming before starting a life long treatment.
finasteride isnt candy so I would just make sure before doing it. The derm will probably explain it to you anyway

Thanks for the response. I just have been freaking out for the past few days. Looking at my hair, and pictures from 6 years ago, it looks mostly the same to me, but the increase on hair falling out really freaked me out to the point that I think about it all the time.

I just straight up told my derm I wanted to get on finasteride. Made it clear that was my agenda

That being said it's not clear from those pics if you have hairloss. Doesn't appear much/any different in the recent ones from the old one

I barely see any hairloss mate. I wouldn't worry if I were you. How old are you btw?
I’m 30. All men in mother side are semi bald(still some hair on vertex), all men on fathers side have a full set of hair. From what I noticed from cousins mothers side, all started balding on their early 20’s. I’m the only one who still has a full set of hair at 30.

You have amazing hair for a 30 year old mate. Looks almost juvenile. I think there's a way to check out if you really do have male pattern baldness (by using microscopical lenses I believe) at the derm. You can try that out

Yes, I go by the mole I have as a mark where hairline stars. New picture and old picture show almost same distance between where hairline stars and the mole. I’m still concerned about hair on pillow and shower falling out. Other thing I can think of is high stress making hair fall out

Maybe you're deficient in any vitamin? Maybe you should do a blood test if you have the opportunity

Thanks. I will ask dermatologist to do that. I am hoping she says the increase of hair falling out is due to high stress and not male pattern baldness. Last year has been a quite stressful year for me. The thinking of hair falling out just made it even more stressful. I wish I am able to have the same hair genes all men on fathers side have, and not the one from mother's side.

I wouldn't even worry if I were you and had male pattern baldness. Finasteride at your age (with your current hair) would probably let you keep your hair for your entire life lol.

Definitely need a doctor to confirm hairloss in your case, I personally don't see any signs of it

Yes, that is what I read finasteride can do. I guess I just have to wait and see what derma says, and if she will give me the medicine now, or tell me to wait if she cant see any signs. I already looked at several pharmacies for the cheaper prices just in case.

Thanks. I will wait and see what doctor says, so I will stop freaking out until I see her and she can tell me what she thinks.

Dermatologist today said she did not see signs of male pattern baldness. However, she said based on her evaluation I have telogen effluvium likely caused by stress. This would explain the increase I see on hairs falling out on pillow and shower. She said good thing is that it is reversible, and that as long as I stop being stressed, i should see everything going back to normal within a few months. She recommended viviscal vitamins while I manage my stress level to help with hair. She recommended I follow up with her in a month.

She did explain to me treatments like propecia, rogaine and transplants are available in case I show signs of male pattern baldness in the future with age, but on the mean time she recommends staying away from all that, and focus on stress levels. I also have itchy scalp, which she said it is caused by dandful and gave me a prescription for a fungal shampoo.

Good for you, man. Just think positively and you'll be fine
