I'm right at about 4 months into using all types of topicals and finasteride.

I've noticed dormant follicles started producing more visible vellous hairs at about 2 months but they seem to "cycle" fast. You know, go from anagen to telogen very quickly. (My crown is the most bald and that's where I can see what is happening better.)

Does anyone know how long vellous hairs stay in anagen? Also, is there any info. out there that tells us how the cycling of vellous hairs to terminal hairs proceeds and/or progresses? (Just looking for general info. on this.)

All I've found is that vellous hairs can cycle in waves but the time periods weren't given and the number of cycles to terminal weren't given.

I just don't have a good "handle" on this vellous cycling and vellous to terminal progression.

This short cycle is common with regrowth.

You have to remember that your hair will need to cycle back into to terminal hair through several cycles.

Your not likely to grow thick terminal hairs instantly on a slick bald area.

The short cycles are hopefully a good thing as long as the hair is growing back slightly thicker or darker everytime.

Keep blasting them with minoxidil and your other stuff and eventually they may become cosmetically acceptable.

From my own experience of vellus hair spotting, my hobby, there appears to be no real logic that i found to any form of cycle that i could make sense of. The average result seemed to be that most of the vellus hair took over 8 months to go terminal while some still haven't.

Hope that helps :D

Yes, both of you helped. It's what I suspected, just wanted it "verified" by people that have "gone before me".

Thanks for the info.

Vellus hair takes a painful amount of time to turn into "real looking hair" from what I have seen for myself and what I have read from other users, have a look at the vellus hair and say to them "see you in a year."

sad but true

hey, at least it is progress right?
