People with DPA, DUPA, or any other form of Diffuse Thinning, please answer any or all of the questions below. I would really appreciate it.
1. How did you first notice you were diffuse thinning? Where was it at first? Did you notice it when wet or dry?
2. How fast did the thinning progress? Like in what time intervals did you notice slight changes?
3. Did you shed a lot? If yes, when did you shed the most (shower, on bed, running fingers through hair)
4. Is it possible to diffuse thin without noticeable shedding?
5. Lastly, what can you do to 100% know if you are diffuse thinning or not, and how can you differ thin areas when wet from part lines?
Please respond if you know a lot
What are the odds in your opinion you can diffuse thin with 0 noticeable shedding, like not even 5+ in the shower? Only thin hair is my maternal grandfather, but he might have developed CTE after my aunt passed.1. First noticed diffuse thinning when seeminly clumps of hair started falling out out of nowhere witha burning scalp.
2. For the first 5 months of thinning I was losing 500-1000 hairs per day so there was a big visible loss in density every couple of weeks. I got on finasteride 2 months after the hairfall started.
3. Yes, mostly in the showers. Before finasteride it was 500-1000 per day and now its around 50-100.
4. Yes but your progression will be slow because that means your anagen phase hasnt been shortened for some reason.
5. Over time, you will know. Also look at your family history.

Yo mate, I hope my answers to your questions can help you in figuring everything out a little bit!People with DPA, DUPA, or any other form of Diffuse Thinning, please answer any or all of the questions below. I would really appreciate it.

Hey I really appreciate the response! I’m just in a weird spot. I’ve been monitoring my hair since November, haven’t cut the top since. My length is growing really long. It’s weird because when my hair is drenched there’s like some lines of hair that I can see scalp (could be hair clumping). I also notice 0 shedding at all. But I style my hair sort of like an undercut, and when it’s spiked up I can see scalp through the front. I’m going to a derm so hopefully I can get it confirmed or denied. If you’d like, check my last thread and look at the pics to make your own opinion.Yo mate, I hope my answers to your questions can help you in figuring everything out a little bit!
1. At first I thought I saw a little temple recession and that’s the point when I really started paying attention to my hair. Then 3 months I started to lose a lot of hair and I started to get more worried. From there on I can just see and feel my hair getting thinner.
2. With the speed of my hair shedding when it first started, I was already making plans to shave it in about 3 months. Luckily it didn’t go that fast and after approximately one year my hair is thinner, but I still have ok coverage!
3. I did and still do, I shed a shitload of hairs. It’s mostly noticable in the shower, after drying and combing my hair it looks like someone combed his cat in there. I have some hairs on my pillow but not that bad. When I run my hand through my hair I seem to get (several) hairs every time but I don’t even pay attention to that anymore..
4. I guess so? Some people don’t even shed (that much) and still go bald. Sometimes shedding isn’t everything.
5. I don’t know mate, I wish I knew because that would really give me some more peace of mind. I guess combing your wet hair to the sides, parting the middle is a way to keep track, but your gut feeling is also really important I’d say. Your mind can play tricks on you, making it seem worse and that. But, if you feel like something is up, most of the time it’s true.

I don’t feel a difference, so I guess that’s a good sign. I plucked a hair from my donor area then from the top and both were the same length and thickness, except the top hair was slightly lighter in color (my hair gets dirty blonde during spring/summer then darkens up in the winter)If you're only thinning on top of your head go through your hairs on the side and back and compare the density with the hair on top of your head. If you can feel a real difference, you're most probably diffuse thinning
And you can of course thinning without major shedding. But the hairs you shed will be miniaturized hairs
Hey mate, I just read into your other topic with the pictures and all that and please stop stressing about your hair this much. It looks damn good and you should be enjoying it, rather than focusing on finding flaws all the time. There are no real flaws, as far as I can tell you’re not balding right now but if you keep staring and focusing at it all the time you are gonna see the negative things.Hey I really appreciate the response! No man, I’m still not using meds right now. I did however reach some sort of clarity for myself that I’ll be giving finasteride a shot when I do find the balls to do it. Might be in a weeks time or 2 months, but I’ll be trying it for sure. Not very keen on trying it, but since my hair is important to me I wanna see if treatments are working out for me. I realize this is what I was saying a month ago as well, but taking the plunge on actually starting finasteride has been a tough one for me hahadid you end up getting on meds?
Honestly that’s the best response I’ve gotten on this site, and for that I’ll take your advice. Like you said once it’s in your head you look for ALL the negatives. But imma take it easy for a little bit and avoid it. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not trying to be rude or unsympathetic about it. It’s just that balding is a fucked up thing to go through and there is no need for you to feel that way since everything is looking good for you so far. So no mate, I’d say you’re not balding. I understand you can’t just let it go or something, but try to live your life and don’t pay too much attention to it. The occasional picture to see if anything changed over a couple of weeks/months is fine, but don’t overdo it. If it makes you feel better, you can always let the people out here take a look for you if you notice anything suspicious and see what they think. If you feel like you have enough information, try to avoid the forum for a while, it’ll really help in getting some peace of mind, especially for someone with mild BDD. Trust me on that one!
