Question about minoxidil 5% Foam

Hi guys,

I started applying minoxidil 5% foam twice daily about 6 weeks ago. I didn't notice a ton of shedding, but wow my hair has gotten diffusely thin ever since starting. I've read a lot about how the initial shed is pretty nasty and that this usually means it's working. I am pretty worried though. Right now during the daylight you can see right to my scalp and this was definitely not a problem before starting minoxidil.

Have any of you had similar issues which ended in thicker overall hair and success? Have any of you had that densely packed peach fuzz/colorless hairs on your hairline actually turn to dark/terminal hairs on minoxidil?

A little about me: 32 y/o. I was on finasteride 1mg/day for 5 years from 04-09. I stopped due to sides. I recently went from a NW2 to a NW3a and am now close to a NW4 after starting minoxidil.

Thanks

The foam is fine. I have had the peach fuzz turn into dark terminal hairs. Not all of it of course, but more than I was expecting. In my experience, new Rogaine hairs will be thin and colorless at first and then become darker as they grow out. This is evident in my own hair. The top half of the new hairs are extremely thin and the bottom is dark and thick. Once they get long enough to be cut during a hair cut, they won't be like that of course.

Yep :agree: the foam is crap

Hi! why would be the foam is a crap? Is that really happen first before getting a thicker hair?

I've tried the Kirkland minoxidil AND Rogaine foam, and it really does thin you out bad. I just started the foam again for about 10 days and already I look balder than I started out. Hairs falling out like crazy, about 10 hairs in my hand when I touch my hair. Gonna just stick to finasteride and nizoral.

minoxidil doesn't work well for everyone, if you start shedding badly I wouldn't continue it, everyone says it'll come back thicker but for a lot of us it doesn't and just makes things worse.

I shed badly and it worked very well for me. I've never seen anyone use minoxidil consistently and end up worse off than before.

I started with liquid minoxidil, finasteride and maintained well for years . I switched to foam because it's so much easier to apply. The stuff completely fucked up my hair and almost made me bald. I stopped using it and returned to using liquid minoxidil.
