Question about HM

I'm just a bit curious and this may be a niave question... will HM have to be approved by any agency like the FDA? Since it's a surgery and not a drug I wouldnt think it would need approval from the FDA. So, after doctors perfect the procedure and are ready to bring it to the public can they just jump in and do it? Or do they need clearance from some higher medical authority and will they have to go through the same rigerous years of testing that is often seen when new drugs come out?

Sorry if that's a dumb question, I just have no idea.

They surely need some kind of approval from a governing authority, be it FDA or not......I think everything works this way. We are not living in a "free" world

I believe that they do NOT need FDA approval... its considered a cosmetic surgical procedure like botox. I could be wrong htough.
