Pulling out long thin hairs - miniaturization?

I have fairly thick dark hair, around 3 inches length on top. Over the last few months, I have occasionally pulled out a hair when running my hands through my head that is just as long as the rest of my hair, around 3 inches, but is thin and has no pigmentation unlike my normal dark hair. I've always read that miniaturization comes in the form of smaller hairs, any ideas as to what I am experiencing?
