I know that i shouldnt be doing this, but i've been testing the strength of my hair by gently pulling it... Recently, i have noticed that i can pull over 5 hairs at a time from anywhere on my head, including my eyebrows and sideburns.. Obviously more comes out on the top of my head.. is that normal?

thanks for any advice

Im on propecia - 6 months
nizoral - 6 months
minoxidil - 3 years

I pull out long eyebrow hairs, they come out pretty easilly, usually. I dont pull them off my scalp though. Stop doing that.

tell me about it...so long as i run my hand through my hair i keep ending up with at least 5 every time..not just the top of my head, all over..sides ..and since starting finasteride, the back as well.

my eyebrow hair is more resistant to pulling though..if i tug i may dislodge one or two max.

could be the finasteride?..could be a t.e while your body adjusts.

Jfrank..if i remember correctly..you're the one who had some serious bad luck upon startin finasteride...how're you faring now?..any regrowth? any reduction in shedding?..hair looking any better at all?..

I think (but I don't really know) that's probably fairly normal. Anyone that pulls on their hair long enough will have some come out eventually.

If you're going to pull on your hair though - there actually is a proper way to do it. It's called the "Tug Technique" or something like that.

Sit down.

Place your elbows on your knees.

Lean forward.

Gather a bunch of your hair in each hand.

Pull / tug outwards gently but forcefully. (don't yank it)

Hold for 2 - 3 seconds.

Release. Gather up some more hair from other areas and repeat.

I think this is supposed to be an follicle exercise - sorry, but I forget "exactly" why it's good for your hair.

(Do I perform this exercise? No. But I have tried it several times.)

You will go bald fast as hell pulling out your hair like that. Ive seen shows on girls who do that for some reason and its not pretty. Dont pull your hair out, it damages the folicle root or something and it doesent grow back as well or as strong.

Sir_LagaLot, how can i tell you about my progress.. or lack there of... obviously, the huge shed i had the first month ended... I havent experienced any regrowth yet, and i feel like i lost a density all over the top of my head.. hair look worse than ever.. however, i am optimistic... it looks like some vellus hairs in front have grown longer.. hopefully they will thicken up... I just started my 7th month of treatment with Propecia/nizoral, so its too early to tell....

my scalp feels cleaner.. and only itches for a little after i put on minoxidil.. so thats a good sign...

oh yeah, i think i'm going through another shed too right now...

i dont care.. i have a new GF that i'm crazy about... all good.. besides my hair..
