Proscar shed this quick? HOW MUCH LONGER??

I started 1/4 proscar pills about a month ago. I think started shedding 2 weeks ago, noticing about double the hairs in the shower...and my hairline is looking thinner.

Is this normal to shed so soon? I actually thought you only shed on minoxidil. How long do proscar sheds last?

I strongly suggest you block your shower drain and pick up all your shedded hair, you'll notice majority of the hairs are very fine with pointy ends.

Because when hair grows it´s thinnest at the top or end and thickest at the base. If you see hairs ejected that are thin and with little pigmentation that means those hairs where gonna fall out anyway and might be that the reaction from finasteride ejected them early to be able to replace them with thicker hairs.

The theory goes: Follicles grow hairs in cycles - this is the anagen phase. As the follicle winds down, hair is ejected and the follicle goes into resting - telogen phase.

Alot of people say that when you lose hair permanently your ending is very thin and little pigmentation e.g if it was black it´s now colorless. I agree with this theory but have to add a bit of my own theory: because when I look at an ejected hair the last cm or less tends to be without pigmentation but the rest from bottom to top is black - so I belive that the follicle is not stopping at once but winding down.

Conclusion. What you should do if you feel you want to monitor the situation is this: Look at hair that you are losing. Is the bottom last 3 cm looking much thinner then the rest of the hair, is the bulb at the end big or small.

If you are responding well to the treatement you should find that hairs that you lose in 3 months are thicker overall but mainly at the bottom and that the bulb is bigger.

Fallen hairs that are small at the root are just a sign of the follicle going into dormancy. It does not mean you're losing your hair. You will also see a lot of hairs that thicken up in a similar fasion when they first come out. So that does not nessisarily mean regrowth. All that matters is how relativly thick the new hair is.

genki21, all treatments cause sheds. The times and lengths are different for everyone. Bare with it.. sheds suck, but if it really is a propecia shed (it is kinda early), it may be a sign of good things to come.
