Proscar purchase using Medical Insurance (in the US)?

I just got a proscar prescription - so no more overpriced propecia! Yahoo!

I have a question about payment via insurance:

Should I pay out of pocket, like I have been, or should I try to submit my insurance information in order to pay less? I am 26 and realize that some insurance companies will block this payment. But if so, HOW will they block it? Will they go after you later, to recover the money, or will they electronically block it right at the time of purchase (preventing you from checking out, right then and there)? I have M E D C O for my coverage.

I am also wondering, do they profile you and put it on your record if you order the drug? If so, it may be better to order it on the credit card just to keep it secret. Thoughts?

I'd pay out of pocket. You're still saving a bundle vs. Propecia.

Last week I had a Proscar prescription filled, and they ran it through insurance despite me telling them it would be paid out of pocket. I believe that insurance would have covered it no questions asked (at least at the time of purchase) because they had already rung it up for me.

Personally, I would avoid any whiff of committing insurance fraud. Any coverage of Proscar by insurance would certainly be for treatment of an enlarged prostate; otherwise, propecia would be covered. As the other poster noted, it's already a godsend to be paying significantly less for Proscar as it is.

How do you get your prescription?

you just go to the Doctor and tell him "give me a prescripton for proscar?"
