Proscar - how long can I store tablets for?

Okay, so, I'm thinning. Nothing major yet, but I'm hoping the proscar tablets will keep it from becoming worse. If not, I'm all for a transplant. I don't want to be bald. My head is just too big and my ears stick out a bit, so I'd really look goofy.

Here's my dilema. I went to my doctor a few weeks ago and he had no problem prescribing me some proscar. I just got the prescription in today. My insurance is real good and I get a 90 day supply for $50 if I use their mail order pharmacy, which I did. I am goiing to cut the tablets, which essentially makes my 90 day supply a 1 year supply. My Doctor. gave me a presciprtion for six months, so I'm basically good for two years.

I'm wondering how I should handle this. Should I just take the six month prescription and then go back to my Doctor in two years for a refill? Obviously he'll wonder what the hell I've been doing for the last 1.5 years. Or do I stockpile the stuff? According to the prescription bottle, it has a year shelf life. Is that accurate?

See, I think all I have to do in six months is call in to get another prescription refill. I don't think I have to actually go in and visit the Doctor. So my options would be to:

A) Call it in and get the refill - i.e. stockpile.

B) Call it in and just sit on the prescription. That way my Doctor at least has it in his records that I got the prescription again.

Finally, should I go on something like Rogaine-type stuff now or wait and see how proscar does? Most of the thinning is in the back.

Thanks.
