If you are getting those kind of sides you should see the Doctor that prescribed it to you and tell him/her. Not sure why you state you should "stick it out", side effects as bad as you are stating should be a sign to see your Doctor ASAP!
As far as hair, in most cases it takes a year to see any improvements in hair and regrowth is always a bonus, in most cases people slow down or stop their loss and that is success as well. I got my best "regrowth" from minoxidil and only added Finasteride (generic 5 mg quartered) after I started losing my gains from minoxidil two years later.
