hi there.
I came across this info about propecia and became a little worried... let me know what you think and know .. Can the following really be true?

... "Propecia (Finasteride) has been available since 1997 and is the first oral medication to ever be approved by the F.D.A. specifically for the prevention of hair loss. A physician’s prescription is required. The overwhelming majority of men using this drug experience some benefit from its use, sometimes dramatically. It takes a full year before the full benefits can be fully seen and appreciated. The recent 5-year research studies show that, for most patients, there is a substantial increase in the number and quality of hairs growing on the patient’s scalp for around 4 years. AFTER THAT, THE PATIENT´S OVERALL HAIR MASS ON TOP VERY GRADUALLY STARTS DROPPING EVER SO SLIGTHLY EACH YEAR, SO THAT THE END OF AROUND 10 YEARS, THE PATIENT IS BACK TO WHERE HE STARTED 10 YEARS EARLIER [my caps]. So, in effect, for most patients it holds off the hereditary expression of hair loss for around 10 years. There also are many clinicians and investigators who believe that finasteride works nearly as well when administered in dosage amounts substantially lower (and cheaper) than that recommended by Merck"

You are misunderstanding it.

The hairs that you might GROW from using Propecia will start to fall off again over time, and at year 10 the will all be fallen off. BUT the important thing is, that Propecia still holds on the hairs that you had BEFORE you started the treatment. So your original hair will stay with the help of Propecia, but "Propecia hair" might fall off again.

So it's not right to say that Propeca stops to work. After all, Propecia is about keeping what you have got. Regrowth is a possitive side effect.

But, I'm pretty confident that in 10 years time, there is no need for Propecia, I believe the cure is around the corner.

Also all of these studies are done on one single product so that they can pinpoint results but almost everyone on here has at least 2 products in their regimen. There are no clinical studies on the Big 3 for instance. Just a point to think about.

The 10-year extrapolation is perhaps valid for vertex - hairloss. NOT for frontal-/ bitemporal recession.

Meh. If I can get ten years at where I am now, I'm fine with that....

This is old news, by the way.

Keeping what you have and then some for 10yrs is a pretty damn good deal if you ask me.

In 10yrs I'm sure they will have something new for us to use

Also, wheyface33 brings up an excellent point. There hasnt been any studies on the "big 3". This may prolong the results past the 10yrs mark.
