Propecia vs. Proscar

Is Proscar really as effective as Propecia? Isn't Proscar meant for something else?

They are the same medicine, Finasteride. Proscar is 5mgs and Propecia is 1 mg. That is why alot of people use Proscar and quarter them to save money. Yes, Proscar was developed for an enlarged prostate.

Shouldn't it be less effective then or is finasteride really the only component that matters? What's the difference between those tablets? Only the dose?
I think Propecia has something more in it.

You should use the search function, there's no diference besides the dose.

the only thing I've heard is an urban legend that the way they mix up the pills the finasteride is not guaranteed to be evenly distributed in each pill, so you're not getting a consistent dosage when you chop it into 4ths/5ths. makes sense to me, but it's probably not true.

Propecia has nothing in it other than Finasteride and filler, that's it. It is just the dose that separates Propecia from Proscar.
