Don't think so as long as you keep your dose relatively the same. If you go from 1 mg to 1.25 mg and are very sensitive to fluctuations in dosage, perhaps side effects will creep up on you. So just take 1.25 mg every 4 days with the 5th day off or try to cut the pill into 5ths.

Proscar is made by the same people in the same manufacturing facility from the same batch ingredients to the same specifications, except for the colouring used in the coating (blue for proscar, brown/orange for propecia) they are identical drugs.

If you were to send 1ml of propecia without it coating and 1ml of proscar without its coating to a lab for analysis, it would be impossible for the two to be differentiated.

That's what I thought, just needs to be sure.

DrinkRum -

I am thinking of taking a quarter tablet every other day, would this be just as effective as taking a quarter every 4 days with the 5th day off. I really want to cut down on my finasteride intake and am trying to figure out the best way to do it without losing it's effectiveness.

If you take 1.25 mg finasteride EOD (every other day), the level of finasteride in your system will be lower than if you take it ED (everyday). The drug is meant to be taken 1 mg ED. If you have side effects, you can try the EOD. It probably won't make a big difference for your hair or side effects as finasteride has been shown almost as effective at 0.50 mg ED as 1.0 mg ED.

Cool man... I will try it. I just want to cut down on the dosage a bit, for awhile anyway. I will go back to once a day.

I just want to give my body a break for awhile. My only problem is I don't want to cut down and lose the benefits of finasteride. I am sure that without finasteride I would be bald now. Therefore, if I cut down I am afraid that I wont hold onto the hair I have. What do you think the chances of that happening? In other words would cutting the dosage lose the effectiveness.
