hmm.. started propecia to days ago and yesterday and today has been and is TERRIBLE! i feel sad and a little depressed, and it just came out of NO WHERE yesterday! theres NOTHING else it could be.. it feels like my heart is beating a little faster, you know like when you are nervous, and i'm just sad..

about the potens... i can get it up, but its not as HARD as i used to be... but only a small difference... so that, i think i can live with! its NOT imagination.. i know my body very well..

all this after just to days? is it possible?

first day i took 0.33mg , yesterday 0.66... think i'll go with 0.33 from now on and see how it will work out!

what would you do?

quit already? or give it some weeks, maybe months...?

is it possible this sadness will go away? when my body gets used to the drug? cause if not, im OFF!!!

and.. this is NOT a scare thread..

Don´t vary the dose. Stay on it, negative effects may dissapear as your body regulates the hormone level. Don´t think much about your status and forget the pill...
In my case, I never worried very much becouse I´ve always had the thought it is a safe med, and, as a matter of fact, I do no experience any negative side effect. Except some general worsening of the hair.
:-x But I hope it will improve with time.
It´s safe, and it is proven. If you have a cold and you get prescribed some meds you do not think much about side effects, do you? finasteride it´s just another drug, used for many many years in much higher doses for treatment of BPH. You have greatest chance of not getting any prolonged sides.

don´t panic!!!

and it wasn't about varying the dose..

i just decided on day 2 to go with 0.5mg instead og 0.33, so just took the last 0.66 og the first broken pill, so i had taken 1 mg on the to first days..

I had some side effects for the first 3 weeks.... now i'm going into month 3 and i have none. You just have to push through the start until your body adjusts to the pill.

I had crazy mood swings for the first six months on my regimen. Ok, obviosuly mine is somewhat more extreme, but nonetheless, my moods were all over the place, from a giggling idiot to being so down I didn't want to get out of bed.

It does settle down though, so don't panic, and try to keep in mind the fact that it's just the meds in your system.

thanks for the replys....

do the different side effects follow each other?? if you get some of them, is there a great chance you will get them all??

apropos mood swings!.. i've just been over lifting weights... it seemed like i had much more energy and more power than i used to! broke my record in chin ups... and afterwards i was totally agressive but also happy!... -so this work out part was cool enough! hee hee dont know what's going on!... maybe my mind is also playing me a little... but one thing is sure, something strange is going on in my body...

GeminiX, I would get used to this, where you are going crazy mood swings, giggling like an idiot and collecting shoes is standard practice.

I must have just got used to the moods, though the random depression passed after a few months (More than likely because of the Androcur rather then the Finasteride though).

I can get incredibly emotional about nothing lately, though I'm sure this is just the hormonal shift...

Speaking of shoes, a new Brantano just opened near me, hurrah!!

safe by who's standards. and proven by what (Merck's own study of it's own drug HAS 0 VALIDITY. 0. It's like a tobacco company releasing a study on the safety of nicotine.

don't spread misinformation

this drug is extremely harmful and at the same time the most important drug you could ever take in your life. it will do nasty things to your body but keep your hair, and ultimately keeping your hair is the most important thing in life (in my opinion).

so take the good with the bad, and eat a better diet and exercise more to compensate for the toxicity of finasteride

don't get off it though: ye underappreciate the social effects of the horseshoe

The call is yours man, i would stick it out a little longer, keep at the lower dose if it makes you feel better. give your body a chance to adjust a bit. that's my opinion anyway :)

dude, it was a double blind study. There was no way for the doctors (evaluating) or the patients to know if they were taking the placebo or the real deal. How can that be skewed? did merck slip little notes under the doors of people who were using the real propecia and not the sugar pill saying "dude, you're taking the real thing, say your hair is getting better so we can sell this drug." And the sugar pill people: "sorry man, you're taking a sugar pill, tell the doctors that your hair is just getting worse." No! If you used your logic, then no drug clinical trial ever done throgh the FDA would be valid.

and secondly, the drug has been used for over 15 years with no irreversible side effects (some very rare gyno issues, that's it). Its a very safe and very effective drugs. (my derm called it one of the safest drugs out there). I'm not saying it doesn't change things in your body, and everyone is different so there is no guarantee. but if it were my decision, i would choose based on 15 years of drug data and a double blind study composed of thousands of people, rather than the opinions of a few hairlosstalk posters, and that includes myself. The choice however, is yours.

Easy tiger! People are just trying to help you with your question but the bottom line here is that everybody responds differently to medication but there's a big chance your body will adjust to the hormonal changes in a short while. So hang in there - you'll be fine.

BTW - do you actually have a gold tooth?

safe by who's standards

FDA and the worldwide national drug agencies where finasteride is sold. If it´s not enough for a mr. Outsider Know-it-all young goth rebel that doesn´t believe in scientific work or technical knowledge verificated by those simple humane brains, you also have the personal standards of all the users (I can´t remember exactly the exact number of millions users around the world) that keep using this pill.

Merck's own study of it's own drug HAS 0 VALIDITY. 0. It's like a tobacco company releasing a study on the safety of nicotine.

Really? and Ford study about his own brakes is no valid? and Boeing study about their aeroplanes is bullshit?
Ok, now tell me about ONE institution or company or a collective of beautiful souls that goes from one company to another elaborating studyes about the safety of their products. Sorry if I´m talking about things that are clearly known, but I have to say it.

Merck is not going to sell any drug that causes more side effects or damages that the ones they clearly indicate. Just like Boeing is not going to sell a plane that is going to explode in the air the second day they flight.
Also I´m aware that there´s not total safety in human manufactures, nor in engineering, nor in farmaceuticals. But It´s 100% sure that Merck company is getting to where is possible with all the knowledge available so far by the human race to guarantee their conclusions. If they would be aware that exists the minimun possibility of a major f*** up while taking their drug, they will be proclaming it or not selling it.

And, I have to tell you, what you have is valious information, go call´em they will pay you millions to bury your scientifically proven conclusions about the harmfulness of finasteride.

don't spread misinformation

ha haha :)

so take the good with the bad, and eat a better diet and exercise more to compensate for the toxicity of finasteride

Since I´m on finasteride, I have started to take care of myself. I´m only dating beatiful girls for compensating, and so I´m able mantain my legendary erectile power.

know better? about which aspect of your post? the effects of propecia on the body, or the idea that clinical trials are hogwash and invalid? In response to your post on vioxx, yes, it is true, some sh*t went down with vioxx. but remember this, vioxx was one of the top drugs prescribed, they stood to lose/make a LOT of money on this drug. propecia doesn't make jack for them, and its been around for 15+ years. if they were worried about some big law suit, it wouldn't be worth it to try and "hide it" as they don't stand to lose nearly as much as some other very frequently prescribed drugs. so far, no major side effects reported/ discovered yet. and you know if someone thought there were some huge side effects they'd be first in line at a law office, ready to file suit. so, fifteen years without a peep from the general public is comforting.

in response to your theories on propecia/merck:
dude, i'm not saying the systems are perfect, nor are the drugs perfect. but they did some pretty legit studies at least in my opinion, including one on twins which demonstrated some signficant differences. I'm sure that you can at least agree that DHT leads to hair loss, and that propecia does, in fact, block DHT formation. If you believe this, then you have to agree that propecia is a good drug for hairloss. Furthermore, if you believe this, why is there any reason to think that thr clinical trial data is bullshit? i mean the results that they market weren't THAT astounding ( 83% maintained), and that's what people on this board pretty much represent. seems like a fair study to me. some regrowth, mostly maintaining. they never claim any unrealistic results, nor do they claim that the drug is free from side effects. What is the whole conspiracy here? i must be missing something.
Just to make sure we're on the same page: your take on it, is that propecia causes MASSIVE side effects and doesn't really work because merck's data on it is invalid since they are the ones that did the trial? is that your opinion? i'm not being an ***, your opinion is just as valid as mine, but i just want to make sure we're understanding each other.

Can i ask to see a link, or some back up about your claims of drastic side effects on finasteride that aren't just some dude's website. I think it was you that was concerned about propecia's effect on the Hypothalamic/pituitary function.

anyway, its getting late. damn, this post is long as sh*t. didn't even realize it :) hope all is well man. keep your chin up.

ill give a longe response to what you wrote tomorrow

but one point: i think my point got confused: propecia is most certaintly effective at stopping hair loss. it works GREAT. this isn't what I contended at all

it's a blockbuster hair drug: my point was the sides are misrepresented

well thank you very much for all the replys... very nice

today i'm feeling MUCH better... can't even feel a difference... so i'll stick with it! 0.5 mg ed..

and i'll let you now what happens.... And yes, getting bald is MUCH more pain, than a little sadness, impotens, what so ever...

so theres no reason not to give it a try..

by the way, i think i've noticed a lot of tiny tiny small hairs at my temples... very thin but with color... can it be the minoxidil already working after just 4 weeks??

this is the reason i believed you doubted propecia's effectiveness. what makes you so sure that the results were "flawed" if the clinical trial suggests a good maintaining/slight regrowth and that's what you think it does. I'm confused. so basically you think it works well, but hasn't yet been proven because the studies are bullshit.

anyway, interested to hear your whole perspective on these major changes that you speak of.
