Propecia / finasteride in the UK

I've pretty much decided that I want to start using Propecia or an equivalent. I'm starting to thin on top so I want to see if can at least hold on to what I've got!

So, how do I get hold of some in the UK? I'm half tempted to buy some online from one of the sites mentioned on this forum, but ideally I'd like to have some kind of consultation with a professional just so they can talk me through what to expect and give me some advice.

So do I have to go to my GP and get a prescription, or a tricologist (do they exist - can I just walk in?), or do I have to go to one of those 'Hair Loss Studio' type places and get ripped off.

I'd really appreciate your advice!

I get mine from Dr John Ashcroft, saving a LOT of money while still getting a kosher supply. See Spex's website for contact details - http://www.hairhelp.myzen.co.uk/?q=node/6

hi dan, here's my (UK) experience:

1) Go to doctor and complain about impending baldness doom

2) Sit through gentle talk about accepting hair loss, how there's nothing you can do about it, and hey - it doesn't look so bad, and nobody really notices!

3) Tell doctor to shut mouth and educate him/her on the joy of finasteride, minoxidil etc.

4) Ignore doctor when they say "but ... this won't grow your hair back!"

5) Really, really insist that you want this sh*t and it WILL help

6) Accept private prescription and concede another doctors appointment at the end of a prescribed 3-month course

7) Hand over ~£120 to local pharmacy for genuine Propecia, stare at pills for a bit, then swalloooowwww...

Success!

Propecia is now available at Boots chemist. its amazing.
they will also offer you a free consulation and it works out cheaper buying it from them. its £90 for three months supply. also theyll take phographs and keep a record of your hair and access it at regular intervals.

just pop in and ask the pharmacists.

about going to your doctor. my experience was this.

i went to my gp who was a bitter old woman who didnt give a sh1t about hairloss. i asked her about propecia and she said she's never heard of it. and basicaly told me to leave.

so i changed my doctor. and asked him about propecia. he looked it up for me. and was alot more helpfull and told me about all the side effects. ect. he prescibed it me there and then. and i dont have to see him everytime i need more. i just get a repeat prescription.

it all depend on your doctor. good luck.

£30 a month? I get a 15 month supply of Proscar for £120.00 from Dr Ashcroft. That's £8 a month.

Thanks for the info guys!

UK78 I'm 31.

I guess it is pot luck with the GP - my hunch is that most of them would react it a negative way but it's nice to hear some can be helpful. I suppose I'm looking for somewhere I can go where I know they'll be friendly and understanding.

I didn't know about Boots - I'll have to check that out.

I know there are lots of cheap places to go on the internet - and I'll probably end up going that route at some point - but the wise side of my head tells me I should at least talk to a professional first!

its not mate. they just look at your hair and go 'hmmm, you should
take propecia on our program. did you know it has a 83%..blah blah'

youll know more than them unless you happen to have a very
knowledgeable pharmacist and ive not met one yet.

My doctor would not prescribe finasteride. Its not on the NHS list of prescription drugs.

I get my finasteride mail order from Inhouse Pharmacy..they do all the hair stuff for big 3 generic and genuine and more and prices are good as is delivery. I recommend them.

Just had a look at the Boots website:

http://www.boots.com/microsites/microsi ... entId=4825

I agree they aren't doing anything special or particularly cheap. But it looks a hell of a lot easier than fighting with your GP for a prescription. And cheaper than consultations at specialist clinics - looks like a good place to start.

Do you really want to pay £360 per year for Propecia when you can get Proscar for a third of that or less?

All Boots are going to tell you is to use the following:

Propecia
Regaine
*Nizoral

Possibly not even the last one as I doubt they're that knowledgeable.

If you feel you need to see a doctor for peace of mind, go see your GP, but please don't pay Boots to tell you what you've just learnt on here for free... :D

This is the answer to your question, I also order from him, he is 100% legit but if it makes you more comfortable paying 3 times the amount for the Boots seal of approval then they will be very happy to oblige.

I think people are comparing apples to oranges here. Yes proscar works out a lot cheaper but some people simply prefer propecia. I am one of those/ If you ask me, £30 per month for propecia from boots is a great deal. You get your pills without having to visit your GP, you get piece of mind that they are legit pills (whereas from online sources there is always a doubt), and you get the benefits of propecia over proscar, namely no-cutting pills, reassurance that you are getting the optimal dosage consistently, piece of mind knowing that your medication is being delivered to your system exactly how it should be.

If I lived in the UK I would go the boots route no doubt.

Nobody is comparing apples to oranges, we are comparing apples to slices of apple.

It's a terrible deal. £22 per month extra is an awfully high price for the convenience of not having to cut your Proscar pills - which you only have to do once every four or five days anyway.

Dr Ashcroft is totally legit. He's on the General Medical Council register-

Some people just prefer not ordering from the interenet, and some people, like me, only want to take a smaller dose. The convienence of getting my finasteride from the local chemist is also appealing, and is only an £15 a month since I'm on on 0.5mg.

I ordered from inhousepharmacy, Fincar, 90 tablets for £40, so divide by 4=360 days worth. A years supply for £40.
