Possible reasons for my thinning hair...

Hello all,

just a quick question.

I am 18 and my hair has thinned considerably on the top. Each individual hair is very, very thin, and im worried it's preceding hair loss. I compare the thickness of the hair at the back of my head and it's much thinner on top.

Now, im hoping its not male pattern baldness at my age, but if it is i will seek a solution.

However two factors i have heard can cause hair loss which apply to me are:

1) i masturbate regularly (ie daily, sometimes more) though not recently. I have heard this can lead to high levels of DHT and thinning hair, but am not sure if it's true?
2) I have been taking Keflor CD, an antibiotic pill, daily for over 8 months now as a treatment for acne.

Could someone please advise me if these are likely to have an effect? Thanks

NB: Sorry! This is in the wrong forum! Just read the "Please read before posting..." and realised it should be moved... how do i do that?

1) No. It's been discussed and there is some release of Zinc which may help control the Testosterone conversion to DHT, but if that is significant... It's most likely not. As long as you are taking a good multi-vitamin this shouldn't be a problem. If it were, there would be ALOT more male pattern baldness going on in younger males.

2) Yes. It very well may contribute to your thinning. I am not familiar specifically with that medication, but most anti-biotics are a contributing factor to thinning hair. Check with your doctor and ask him/her if that is a potential side effect.
