Possibility of a shed

I was just wondering, since I'm about to start using minoxidil 5% very shortly (if only there were some available, gotta keep checking local stores) what the chances of evading a shed are, or if a shed does occur, what are the chances that it'll make a cosmetically visible difference in the thickness (or lack thereof) of my hair?

I'm hoping that starting minoxidil will not impact me cosmetically when I begin use, and I won't have to take a step backwards visibly before I take a step forwards. Kinda worried!
