All androgens contributes to hair loss, especially DHT and testosterone. However, you've nothing to worry about as long as the testosterone level is in the normal range. I'm using steroids, and I used 100 mg Telogen Effluvium a week along with 1 mg Propecia a day without any problem with hair loss. At that dose, my testosterone level was at the top of the normal range at the end of the week, which probably means that my testosterone level was 40 - 50 nmol/l after an injection. Normal range is approximately 8 - 35 nmol/l.

Testosterone does miniaturize the follicles as well, but of course DHT is a lot worse, since it's several times more androgenic.

Ever thought of that their follicles just may be too sensitive to androgens? I'm not saying that there aren't any other reasons; because I know a lot of drugs can cause telogen effluvium for instance, especially those which affects hormones. Propecia usually halts and reverses the miniaturization process, but it will continue - despite of using Propecia daily, although at a much slower rate. This is because you still have a lot of testosterone, and about 30% DHT.
