Hey guys,

I'll keep this short and sweet. I only recently became paranoid about my hair because only at the start of summer did I start SHEDDING SO MUCH. Like 60+ hairs a day :/

Anyway, on my fathers side they all still have thick, coarse NW1 hair but on my mothers side, both my uncles & grandpa went bald by 35 (NW4.5 ish). I am currently 21 years old and although everyone tells me I am not balding (friends, family, gf) I am simply paranoid due to my family history and the fact that I shed so damn much...

I don't mind simply maintaining what I have. The products I just started using today are:

- Nizoral 1%
- S5 cream (got a year supply) twice a day on thinning areas
- Sesa Oil (a friend told me it strengthens hair root)
- Hair supplements (MSM/Biotin/Vit D etc)
- Omega 3

I have uploaded pictures and would LOVE comment on how bad my situation is and whether I can hold on to my hair with a regimen like this. Not looking for regrowth necessarily but maintenance. finasteride is an option but not an option I would *like* to take. I am open to the idea but I am extremely unsure about it.

Comments welcome :) Anything would help me put me out of my misery :/

Lastly, what REALLY bothers me more than the shedding is the fact that in certain light situations (like a flashlight on my head) I can see through my hairline like 1 cm into it....I don't notice that on my friends :/

Are you kidding? Your hair is perfect, get out of here and live your life!
Seriously, there's nothing to worry yet. Wait another 6 months and then, if you lose density in the front, you should consider propecia, it is the only thing that would keep your hair.

Hey thanks for the reply! So nothing to worry as of yet? Thats great news. What do you think about using the S5 cream as a sort of assurance, maybe thicken some hairs up? Thanks again!

I don't think you're balding, just your hairline is changing. All hairlines change as you go from teen to adult. If you start thinning elsewhere, or start to shed or you start to see a lot of scalp, then you should explore options.

Hey man, thanks for the response. I don't think I'm thinning but I do experience a lot of hairfall. I wash my hair every 3 days (about) and I probably see like 60 or 70 hairs come out of my scalp. And most of them are from the front of my head, you know? Guess it kinda shocked me because I never really noticed hairfall :/ And my uncles are pretty bald which kinda makes me paranoid :/ but thanks

Hey thanks for the response!

Well its actually not noticeable unless you look really closely and are like 1 inch away from my head. The thing is I'm using S5 cream and I'm hoping in 6 or 7 months time I hese hairs thicken up. But I'm really paranoid man

It is accepted that shedding 100 hairs a day is normal. So don't worry about 60.
It is about the hair cycles. Each day 100 hairs fall(go to resting phase) and 100 other begin to grow, so the overall density doesn't change.

Sorry to burst your bubble but it looks your hairline is receding and thinning. I think your current regime is not strong enough if you want halt or keep what you have in the long run. I advice you to look into finasteride if you hair loss continue to progress in over year or so.

Hey HairGuru, I understand thanks for saying that. I would like to wait till December to see if things progress as propecia is a powerful drug. Do you think there is much harm in waiting till December to see if maybe things slow down or maybe even the s5/ cream helps? I am not at an advanced stage of mbp am I?

S5 cream helped me, but I moved onto finasteride. I think it would be a wise decision to wait until December using the S5 cream. Even without any treatments not much would fall out in 5-6 months or w/e anyway.

Hey Cursed man, okay that's what I will do! In the meantime, is there anything else I can add? I just wanna do everything I can before I try finesteride since it's a really powerful / hormonal drug! But thank you for your response!!

Also is it possible to use s5 cream three times a day? Once midday?

There's no harm in waiting a few months, you're not at an advanced stage of MBP. Keep taking pictures every week, or else it's hard to keep accurate progress. I know it's difficult to take advice online from anonymous people, but if you're scared to use finasteride, start off on a super, super low dosage and increase dosage very, very slowly. That's what I'm doing, started out taking a quarter of a 1mg pill every other day, i'm on .25 mg every day now and things are going well as far as not experiencing sides.

Yes, it is beginning. In fact, no time to waste. You have sebum overproduction; possibly a very low dose isotretinoin (like 10mg/week) would solve your problems already (including hair loss).

Okay, thanks for the response guys. Yes, anonymous, that is what I will be doing to avoid side effects with finesteride when I start in December. I just want to give this s5 cream a try by itself. See what happens.

Psyhotria, I'm not sure what you mean. Isn't accurate worse for hair?

Also, it seems as though finasteride is going generic this November...

Not sure about the 3 times a day. I don't really know how long the S5 works. So, there might not be a point in applying 3 times if it lasts 12 hours.

Loss of hair from isotretinoin can occur at high doses that are typically used against acne (60+ mg/day) and prolonged use. I am suggesting ultra-low dose of 10mg/week. But ok, let's leave that aside.Reason being that a study comparing ketoconazole vs minoxidil (2% vs 2%) not only found ket to be slightly more effective in produced hair counts, but interestingly it found a negative relationship between sebaceous gland size and hair shaft diameter. Ket shrinks sebaceous glands, while minoxidil does not. And isotretinoin does it most. So, better use 2% nizoral, because this is going to be the best weapon in your regimen that you aim for; you can use it also on your face to reduce sebum, although there are many other options for that of course.
