Pain at roots of hair when brushing in certain directions.

I've asked this before, a couple of months ago, but did not receive any especially insightful replies.

Does anyone else experience this? It doesn't happen every day, but once in a while brushing my hair in certain directions causes sharp pain all around the roots. The pain is only in the male pattern baldness regions (top of head).

Usually if I brush my hair around for 5 minutes the pain gets better, kind of like stretching a muscle.

Well, if anyone can relate, let me know...

EDIT: by brush I mean move my hair around, but not with a comb, just with my hands.

i know exactly what you're talking about. This is a different kind of pain than from seb dermitits. the hair around my temples and on top of my head. It lays in a certain way uncombed and wehn you move it in the other direction, it causes sharp prikly kind of pain. It is more noticeable when i use T-gel.

I had that too... still do from time to time.

It is classic irritiation. I get that usually when I skip showers for one reason or another, it seems to become noticeable when I allow my scalp to get greasy.

Exactly the same for me. I believe sebum build up causes more inflammation of the hair follicle hence more pain when you move the hair. If i wash my hair everyday it doesnt seem to be noticeable.

That's strange because for me it hurts the most when my hair is at its driest. If I don't shower for a day and my hair gets greasy, the pain goes away entirely.

What a strange one! I wouldn't think about it for more than a second if it wasn't isolated to the male pattern baldness areas. Makes me think there is something to learn from it.

Question: do you all have hard, dry, wavy/curlyish hair (not straight) ?

I have straight hair and they are naturally directed forwards.
when i try to comb them backwards it hurts exactly like you described.
I know what you mean (and it has nothing to do with showers). It appears when I try to change their natural direction.
