The "effect of dosage on hair count" trials on this site pg 109 you will see a paragraph that kind of hints at the idea of combinding dutasteride with finasteride is being shied away from .I can guess that the huge amount of money on conducting trials is the motivation behind avoiding talk of combinding the two .

Forgot to mention that the doctor mentions a factual experiment in which they applied dutasteride to finasteride patient .Very interesting indeed .I'll be on finasteride but with 1mg of dutasteride every two weeks .Has anyone read any creditable info on mixing hazards of the two?

What's the point of mixing? The dutasteride already does finasteride's job plus a little more as it blocks both I and II isozymes. You're just wasting money on finasteride, in my opinion.

Watch out for the sides on dutasteride ... it blocks more DHT (the DHT, Type I, located in sebaceous glands, muscles, etc.).

Within the 'prescribing information' leaflet that comes stuck on the side of each pot of dutasteride it is stated that Avodart is contraindicated for other 5 alpha reductase inhibitors.

The point in mixing is a simple one .There's two benefits two such a regime .First we have also a type 1 inhibiter and finasteride lowers the dht to about 50% (correct me if I'm wrong please) but I would like to lower that level a bit more but not down to extreme levels which dutasteride does because I work out and also don't want my chest muscle to start changing into a tit do to the extreme lows .There's the benefit .Any advice is welcome .Perhaps dutasteride once a week instead .Also I don't want to wait two more months for my hairloss to stop .

I don't understand your logic at all. Do you intend on using small dosages of each drug? Keep in mind that both dutasteride and finasteride are very potent even at small dosages.

And where do you get the info that finasteride reduces DHT by only 50%? It does a hell of a better job than that -- go to http://www.rxlist.com and look up "finasteride". It is a very potent, selective Type II alpha reductase inhibitor.

My advice is to just stay on the recommended dose of finasteride. There isn't enough info about dutasteride out there and surely there is no scientific nor logical reason to combine the two drugs. Take one or the other.

I'm just saying that dutasteride inhibits #1 but I don't want the low dht levels so I was thinking of finasteride with dutasteride .Here's an idea perhaps I can go on dutasteride for a couple of weeks to drop the dht and then continue with finasteride , this way I don't have to wait four months with finasteride .

Dutasteride is a dual inhibitor. It inhibits both 1 and 2 isozymes. Finasteride only inhibits the 2nd one. However, the 2nd one is primarily responsible for hairloss.

You're going to have wait for months before seeing results on either drug. Both drugs start to work immediately but it just takes time for the hair follicle to respond as hair doesn't grow immediately.
