The male pattern baldness pattern of hair loss is unique to male pattern baldness/Androgenetic Alopecia. Other causes of hair loss do not manifest in the male pattern baldness pattern. Hair follicles at the hairline and crown miniaturize quickest in male pattern baldness because they are the most sensitive to androgens. These follicles are no more sensitive than follicles elsewhere on the scalp to non-androgenic causes of hair loss (for instance, alopecia areata or telogen effluvium).
