Oral Finasteride V Topical Spironolactine

I’m 42 and new to this. I’m looking to do something about some loss of hair on the partings above the temple, some general thinning on top and thinning at the crown.

I’ve been researching options the last few days and it seems oral Finasteride (Propecia), topical Rogaine and maybe an anti inflammatory shampoo are the best options.

The thing is I’m not keen to take oral Finasteride given the possibility of sexual side effects (I’ve seen that sometimes the side effects can be permanent or long term).

Can you use a topical cream instead of oral Finasteride? Like S5 cream or any other topical cream?

If I was dead set against taking oral Finasteride I would try topical Finasteride. I would not use topical Spironolactone personally. If you are 42 and just have very minor loss you may also be okay with just using Minoxidil+Nizoral+Caffeine shampoo for years.

My hair loss is worse than very minor so I think I need something to act on the hormone issue.

I see you’re taking Propecia... is it all okay on the side effects front? Do you have any feel from using this site what sort of percentage of people get sexual side effects?

I’ll take a look at oral Finasteride. I read somewhere that the topicals are less effective because you can’t really apply them to haired areas of the scalp so they might not protect against future hair loss. Do you know if that’s true?

I am taking around .5mg of brand name Finasteride. I do not have any side effects from it.

I'd give RU58841 a shot.
For what its worth Ive had no known sexual sides from finasteride in the 2.5 months Ive been on it.

It seems that your hair loss is minor. You should opt for topical minoxidil for 4 to 6 months and see what benefits you derive from it. If the minoxidil doesn't benefit you then you may opt for internal/topical finasteride or topical spironolactone. And do not try RU58841.

I had some bad side effects in the brief time I used it. It's derived from a drug used on men with prostate cancer. Even sourced from a reputable lab I would have concerns but from an unknown Chinese lab.....no way.
